"Well, see, every so often, Mother Nature makes a woman that won't sit still, won't stay put, don't take no shit, and more often than not, in the grand scheme of things, she pays for it --- with her life. But she has her function. If she's lucky, if Nature's bet pays off, she'll take out some no-good motherfucker on her way out. That's her purpose, to make the world a slightly better place by takin' out the worst of the worst." Claire was shocked, "Myst," she said, "is that really what you think is going to happen to you?" "Maybe, maybe not. Like I said, it's all a gamble. All statistics. But if you get really lucky, you get famous while doing it. Not for yourself --- you probably won't be around to know you're a legend. But your story will become one that inspires women, and maybe, just maybe, scares the fuck out of some of the more cowardly evil-doers. Not all of 'em. Some of 'em," she lowered her voice, "just need killin'. But the rest of 'em might be just a little bit haunted by your name, might think twice." "Myst, this is getting too dark for me." "It's a dark world, Claire, it's the job of women like you, and Julie, Liz, and Mary, to be the lights in it. It's the job of women like me, statistically speaking, to take one for the team. We're the bad bitches of history, Claire, we've been driving tent-pegs through motherfuckers' skulls and stabbin' tyrants in the bathtub, since the dawn of time."
