In the 90's I was at an Anti-Racism event in the Old Town Hall in Newham.

Among the speakers was a veteran East End activist who had been at #CableStreet & who cut through the platitudes saying,

"The only way to fight Fascism is on the Streets."

Still true although now the Streets extend online.

On this day in 1936, the British Union of Fascists was prevented from marching through the heart of a Jewish community in London by an 'immense human barricade' at #CableStreet.

The optics are pretty awful. Today marks 90 years since Cable Street, when Jewish East Enders stood against Mosley’s antisemitic fascists. Today, the Greens are voting on a motion declaring Zionism is racism. Whatever your view of Israel, that timing is hard to ignore.
