Our National Clinical Lead for Cancer Medicines and colleagues from across the Scottish cancer pharmacy community attended this year's BOPA conference in London.

It was a valuable opportunity to learn and connect with cancer pharmacy colleagues from across the UK.

I wish we could rename MDTs.

Are we referring to Multi Disciplinary Team Meetings or

Multi Disciplinary Working?

Rob Duncombe sharing all his years of knowledge in 3 ways to get a business case approved:

- improve safety
- improve patient experience
- balance the books

Just because the hospital down the road does it doesn't mean you'll get a case approved

Pharmacokinetics modelling -
My reservation with saying dose banding sits above BSA in the hierarchy is that this depends on the width of the bands. If you band small-medium-large then yes that's in that hierarchy. If you are using the Β± 6% variance we use... It's the same level

ORAL ABSTRACT SESSION
This is always my highlight of BOPA seeing what colleagues have been working on, and hopefully seeing the best of the work submitted.

Here is a πŸ§΅πŸ‘‡πŸ»πŸ‘‡πŸ»

@shinyblackshoe.bsky.socialOct 3, 2026, 8:48 AM

Just wrote a thread of the first 3 #BOPA2026 Oral Abstract presentations.
Phone switched its self off and on.

I will catch up.

But just to say so far -- the quality of slides and πŸ—£οΈ has been bang on.

@brianmackenna.bsky.social thought you'd want to see this.

James Richardson presenting . This was based on data from July and I think was self reported.

I've not covered all the #RWO posters in this thread. I've given up pretending to understand haematology.

As with the #AI 🧡 I've not put πŸ“Έ on this year. If you are at #BOPA2026 go talk to the presenter... That's the point of the poster. If you aren't here and want a pic message and I will try...

@shinyblackshoe.bsky.socialOct 2, 2026, 4:35 PM

As with my #AI 🧡from #BOPA2026 there is a Real World Outcomes #RWO/#RWE theme running through some posters. I notice people don't know where to put these - are they audit (but against what standard?), are they research (but are the results generalisable?) or should they have their own category?

@shinyblackshoe.bsky.socialOct 2, 2026, 4:25 PM

The #BOPA2026 posters are not short of #AI studies. Now we can argue for or against the use of #ArtificialIntelligence in these settings but there are some eye catching time savings for the use of these #LLM's so it's no surprise people are keen to see what they can deliver.

@shinyblackshoe.bsky.socialOct 2, 2026, 4:15 PM

Now I'm normally no fan of early access schemes. But if one was ever needed (preferably an EAMS or does Project Or is still exist?) it would be for daraxonrasib in pancreatic

Do we know why not?

Would #BOPA2026 want it?

Some initial thoughts on posters from #BOPA2026.

1️⃣ The visuals on some of the posters have absolutely moved on from 10 years ago. I assume AI (LLM's) are part of that. But excellent to see some high quality postering and less of the 3D Excel Chart copied into a word document and stretched

Presenting my work on real-world outcomes for patients with mHSPC treated with enzalutamide at #BOPA2026 this year.

If you've ever had doubts about the effect on outcomes of dose reducing, hopefully this will help to reassure! Patients on dose reductions did at least as well as those without.

Connor says what about template letters

We use template letters. How do we check the letter contains what Connor needs ?

Friday evening at #BOPA2026 is poster night. This year is another record breaking year for posters. I'll be sharing some thoughts on that later. But for now - here is my poster.

Excellent question from Helen about EPS of medicines from secondary care.

But -

1. We need that to work for low risk SACT (cdk46 etc)
2. We need chief pharmacist to not freek out about the costs

EPS needs to be in SACT prescribing systems folks!!

As the NHS enters yet another restructure, are we about to lose a bunch of national work because NHSE won't exist.

So we will end up with local projects that never scale up.

There is no plan

Frustrated that perhaps 23 years ago, I could have heard almost the same words from the top. Perhaps less so the community pharmacy but everything else were the same words

I'm already worried about capacity for oral SACT dispensing while everyone is still stuck on aseptics #BOPA2026

Should research be done on weekends?

My view has always been that research is enjoyable. That's why it's the bit I might leave to a weekend.

But am I wrong to think being a pharmacist might not be a 37.5h job? It's a career
