#BlackSeptember, a civil war in #Jordan, began on #ThisDayInHistory in 1970. It was a response to a #PLO-led state-within-a-state, wherein many #Palestinian-peopled parts of the country defied Amman. Heavy fighting went on for months, with the #PLO finally expelled to #Lebanon.

The #PFLP, a leftist #Palestinian militant group, hijacked four airliners on #ThisDayInHistory in 1970. Three were directed to a desert airfield in #Jordan, hence the label #DawsonsFieldHijackings. The incident soon helped to tip Jordan into its civil war, called #BlackSeptember.

In the #MunichMassacre, on #ThisDayInHistory in 1972, a #Palestinian militant group called #BlackSeptember (named for the Jordanian civil war) attacked the Israeli athletes at the #MunichOlympicGames. Two died in the attack, and the other nine were killed during a botched rescue.
