#Dutch soldiers for the #DutchEastIndiaCompany (#VOC) committed the #BataviaMassacre on the site of what eventually became #Jakarta on #ThisDayInHistory in 1740. They killed at least 10,000 ethnic #Chinese residents between this date and the 22nd, with just over 600 surviving it.
