I don't know to whom the credit goes for this! It appears sans β„’ on another platform.

Brilliant. Students of #ashwell26... This was the soil matrix drawing you deserved, not my poor dry erase board scribbles πŸ˜‚

Please shout if you are the clever originator!

A soil matrix triangle showing percentages of sand, clay and silt, but with regions identified using punny song names like Clay Jude and Only the Loamy

Less than a week and I'm already missing this gorgeous ditch. Look at all the lovely filling. 😌

121 people, 27mph winds, 2 trenches, 7 site tours, one me.

Been a brilliant day at the #ashwell26 open day, despite the variable weather (only a few raindrops!!)

Thanks to all who came out!

A series of small finds bags taped to a table, the table is staked to the ground with guy lines

This is how you gale proof your finds display 😱

Good news from the #Ashwell26 dig πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

Extremely so! Participants were amazing, and this first season has nicely tested the waters (I know better the density and preservation of finds, as well as the soils and stratigraphy).

Green light from the landowner this morning, so as #ashwell26 ends, watch for #ashwell27 registration soon!

Late 1stC BC iron age coin (probably Andoco) (thanks for the ID, Philip de Jersey 😎)

I might make this the Fieldschool icon for a while πŸ™ƒ

Ashwell End - SG7 5JE
Come along to the Open Day at the end of #ashwell26

A few nice features, a few nice finds, the good people at the Asheell Museum are opening up too and doing teas and things.

We have a lot of gorgeous Iron Age potsherds and a very sexy bronze iron age coin...

Fresh from the trenches...

(Fresh indeed - the cheeky chap on the Samian sherds is lucky that break spared his blushes)

Anyone hot on their chronology of Hertfordshire field drainage? Maybe @themerl.bsky.social ?

It's truncating the eastern side of our (probably late med) boundary ditch.

Despite this lack of Romanitas, Bea seemed happy to reveal itπŸ˜‚
