#AMomentinNature was noticing this cute B&W spider on the underside of a swamp sunflower (Helianthus angustifolius) which is blooming now in our unpoisoned mostly native yard. This sunflower is native from NY-TX & most of FL. More info on this sunflower: www.fnps.org/plant/helian...

#AMomentinNature was this Brown Thrasher (Toxostoma rufum) singing to us from a snag. A thrasher's song is amazingly complex with each segment of the call sounded twice. Snags provide important habitat. Read more about snags as habitat here:

#AMomentinNature was just a few minutes ago as 10 Sandhill Cranes (Antigone canadensis) circled overhead of our house here in North Florida.

#AMomentinNature was noticing this lovely little mushroom that looks like its glowing from the inside. Mother Nature's parasol.
These are the spore producing structures of a fungus. Extensive fungal networks in healthy soils are necessary for good plant growth, but we don't see these fungi working.

#AMomentinNature was noticing the first roselle blooms. Roselle (Sabdariffa gossypiifolia formerly Hibiscus sabdariffa) is native to Africa, but it’s known as Florida’s cranberry. Unlike most crops, the edible part is the calyx, not the fruit. greengardeningmatters.blogspot.com/2021/11/rose...

#AMomentinNature is appreciating finding a beautiful the eastern tiger swallowtail (Papilio glaucus) even though it’s one of the most common butterflies in its native range of eastern North America. Your unpoisoned yard creates good habitat for these and many other butterflies.

#AMomentinNature was before sunrise on this day several years ago at the St. Johns River in Jacksonville.
