I feel bad for Mari because I think Sayonara Lara unintentionally made her more a "vehicle" for Lara's overall development which is iffy for me. Even the epilogue of Lara leaving felt like Mari really got the raw end of the deal; count how much she lost now! 😅😭

Now I like Mari as a character, and her foil and relationship with Lara is pretty solid. The problem is that she surprisingly didn't get an equal amount of screen time or closure for her even though we have a clear set up for her esp. with her loneliness and her dead mom.

Now that I'm think about of #GoodbyeLara, I still like it except the epilogue. The visuals that hearkens the 90s style shoujo is really neat, and I can get behind Lara's overall journey even if some of the mermaid lore stuff can get clunky.

Shockingly, the problem I have is Mari. 😬

Beautiful show. The art, the music and the voice acting—the story, Lara's journey, the time she and Mari spent together, the promise they made to each other and Lara choosing Mari. #さよララ 12

There's so much I can and want to say about this show but to sum up my feelings, while it isn't a perfect subversion of TLM, it does a damn good job at it. Lara and Mari are really endearing characters and Grace—no, Gon-chan, is a fantastic support character. #さよララ 12

I could sit here for hours talking about his role and Lara eventually choosing Mari over him but I have probably said enough in all of the other threads so I won't. #さよララ 12

And that's why I really don't mind him. Well okay that's a lie, I do mind him. But not as much as one would think considering he's a straight boy who gets in the way of yuri. #さよララ 12
