Does anyone else find themselves cooking and washing up in the near dark in order to not disturb or confuse the moths?
Didn't think so 🙄

A few more from last night's garden traps in mid Cheshire, Green-brindled Crescent, Merveille du Jour, Blair's Shoulder-knot and Vine's Rustic. I was very pleased to see 30 moths of 22 species. #teammoth #mothsmatter

Angle-striped Sallow (Enargia paleacea) -Cairngorms, Scotland, September 2026. Another new species for me on trip to Scotland last month. A very rare species in Ireland with only one record back in 2002. #moths #mothsmatter #teammoth @savebutterflies.bsky.social @europebutterfly.bsky.social

It may have been a weekday but a warm, humid, and still night was too good not to set the trap out. Rewarded with 109 moths of 34 species, the biggest catch since mid-September. Barred Sallow, Green-brindled Crescent and Barred Red were all new for the year.

This Silver Y turned up in my moth trap this morning but also can be seen flying during the day. A migrant moth that does breed here but its early stages cannot survive our winter. #mothsmatter

Merveille du Jour (Griposia aprilina) to my #Norwich garden moth trap last night. The first this year of this beautiful species. Translates from French as "Marvel of the Day". Nuff said. #moths #norfolkmoths #mothsmatter #teammoth #bugsky

A warm and breezy night last night staying at around 14c produced some good moths in my mid Cheshire garden. White-speck, Barred Sallow, Feathered Thorn and Juniper Carpet were four that were either new or new for the year for me. #teammoth #mothsmatter

Small (7mm) but perfectly formed, the Small Marbled, an immigrant moth it will breed in the UK in a hot summer #MothsMatter

Most Small Marbled moths are pale yellow and orange, this is a more richly marked one

A second White-point for the autumn here in Cardiff - and third for the garden.

Equally fidgety as the last one.

A couple of late additions to last night's trap. Found on walls near the trap, a Grey Shoulder-knot and a Silver Y. The Shoulder-knot is a new species for me. #teammoth #mothsmatter
