Writign Excerpt:
He was silent at first, face tilted up slightly as he looked out over the terraces sprawled on either side, sunlight streaming through the fog that was slowly finding its way skyward. The potato birds had returned in the gathering warmth, the ripples in the water clearly visible to his sharp eyes. It would not be long before other, larger creatures joined them.

Perhaps he was taking too long to reply, because the woman had opened her mouth again when finally he said, "Most people prefer to remember from whence they came."

“Who goes there?”

An airy voice croaks from above them. The treant freezes in place. The Corporal, bracing for impact, peeks behind her gauntlet. Atop the towering treant, perched within its hedging, is a girl in a simple woodcutter’s tunic and hunter’s furs, her eyes red as a wild beast’s yet staring with calm suspicion from the shadows. No, with horns of darkened verdigris sprouting from her head, this couldn’t be an ordinary Hyur, let alone a young girl all on her own.

E-Sumi sighs, though he addresses his fellow Padjal with a gentleness that softens his scolding.

“Sister E-Rika, might I suggest observing more closely before deciding to attack? Your folly could have caused an incident that could bring the entire Shroud to its knees.”
