Since Edmonton builds a lot of shared paths, let's use the active and public transportation mode share!

Let's also remember that the 2% number is commuters, a much larger percentage of the population rides bikes (it's about 15% in Edmonton).

I like @jeromyyyc.bsky.social’s take in this @ryanjespersen.bsky.social video. If 2% of people travel in the city by bicycle, let’s allocate 2% of the capital budget to safe bicycle infrastructure.

It’s only 2%🤷‍♂️

Today was another roadie heaven day for the #yegbike larger urban area edition.
From Miquelon Lake Provincial Park, straight west on Rollyview Road to Leduc. Wind at our backs, rested from a night in the tent, we made excellent time (for us).
Went through Leduc a different way, using Siri for […]

Alberta law provides an answer to making Critical Mass rides perfectly legal in terms that law enforcement already understands.

Make it a celebration of life event (funeral) and you don’t even need to have the remains of the person present.

This Friday, we will pause to acknowledge those we've lost. From traffic violence to unfortunate accidents, join us for a moment of silence, a bike ride, a community gathering.

6pm at Ezio Farone park.

Cool again this morning, with a bit of a breeze out of the northeast. No obstacles on my route. (I didn’t take Ravine Dr. today.) Looks like someone hit the tree outside Hathaway’s on 124 St, as it had a serious lean going on when I rode by. #yegbike

Cooler this morning. No new obstacles to speak of, and sadly no wildlife. Ravine Dr is still closed at 101 Ave. There’s a broken street sign in the 102 Ave bike lane at 126 St. Gentle reminder that cars and other cyclists can’t see you before sunrise if you don’t have lights. #yegbike

Today’s #yegbike larger urban area report:
Today was mostly an A-to-B trip from Ponoka to Camrose.

A slow meandering prairie river winds through a wide river basin. Tire tracks from large machinery create muddy ruts in the sandy soil.
Some cloud cover in blue skies hint at a beautiful sunset soon to occur.A gravel road ascends a low wide river valley. At least half the basin is marsh and prairie grasses.
Far up the roadway, a lone cyclist with many bags attached to his little bike climbs the hill.
The cyclist is me.An old green girder bridge spans a slow winding river and basin. The low flat wide banks are filled with prairie grasses and small scrub brush.
The roadway is loose gravel and old cement pavement for the bridge surface.
Not pictured are huge clouds of large and annoying sand mites.A paved multi-use-path made of asphalt of varying condition runs along side a gravel section road for several kilometres.
The area is scrubby woodland, and the skies are half filled with clouds.

Hey #yegbike just a reminder about the detour on the NW of the High Level Bridge. Several cyclists seemed very confused about where to go on my commute because there is zero wayfinding signage about where the detour is. So I figured I'd share this detour map that Paths for People shared earlier.

Satellite map view of Constable Ezio Faraone Park and the High Level Bridge. There is a legend in the upper left-hand corner with a red line indicating shared path closed and a green line indicating shared path open. The typical shared use path and pedestrian sidewalk straight from the 97 Ave crosswalk to the northwest entrance of the shared use path on the High Level is closed. The detour is west along 97 Ave to connect onto the shared use path just slightly west of 110 St and then make a slight right to continue west on the shared use path avoiding the cobbled promenade and then left to continue on the shared use path towards the northwest entrance of the High Level Bridge. This path is indicated on the map with a green line.

Looks like the new counters at the 142 St bridge, 100 St north of Happy Beer Street, and 106 St south of 61 Ave have been added! #yegbike
