Side view of a grey heron against a blue sky. The heron is flying to the right. Its left rear wing is below its body, and its right wing is slightly to the side of its body. The bird’s light grey base colour is visible, and the wing tips are dark gray. The beak is yellowish white and its dark legs are stretched out far behind it.

On the right, a tree branch extends to the left, with a chiffchaff perched halfway along it. It’s facing right and is quite plump. It has a light brown belly and reddish-brown outer plumage There are a few leaves around it, and behind the trees is a light blue sky.

Thanks @alan678.bsky.social for

#BirdOfTheDay theme:
#InFlight
and the alt #grounded

I go with a grey heron. Think it‘s both the same.

A grey heron in flight, in the shade of trees above a pond. Just before landing, it has its legs pointed downward; you can see its back and its large grey feathers. Green trees are in the background.

A grey heron stands on a fallen tree trunk with its neck bent. The trunk is lying in the water. Its body is reflected in the water, as is the greenery growing on the tree trunk.
