Photograph of an iron age hillfort, its overgrown ramparts rising toward the right of frame. In the distance, far below, cultivated fields are laid out, with a line of dark hills behind. The sky is largely cloudy.

Sitting at a height of 262m OD, Barbury Castle hillfort has stunning 360° views

South across #Wiltshire and #Hampshire, north to the Cotswolds and NE to the hillforts of Liddington and Uffington

It's an amazing place 😍

Can't believe we haven't visited for 3 years

Although sometimes overlooked by visitors to #Wiltshire in favour of more flashy prehistoric monuments, the Iron Age hillfort of Barbury Castle near Swindon remains mightily impressive, with ramparts standing 3-4m high above a 3-7m deep ditch 😍

Happy #HillfortsWednesday !!

One of the largest coastal promontory forts in Cymru/Wales for #HillfortsWednesday 🤩🌊

The epic Deer Park fort at Martin's Haven, south-west Pembrokeshire - a centuries-old embarkation point for the islands, Ireland & beyond

Did Pytheas the Greek ever stop here? 🤔🛶

Figsbury Ring, an Iron Age univallate enclosure with an inner ring ditch, purpose unknown. Maud Cunnington investigated in 1924 and found a Bronze Age sword and early Iron Age pottery. Fabulous views of Salisbury Plain and Old Sarum
