A concrete wall holding up a bridge over train tracks. It's covered with tags and there's snow on the ground.

A snowy field with some fence posts stretching to the mountains in the background, the sun shining behind a sky full of clouds. A few droplets of water dot the window the shot was taken from.

* In #Paterson, New Jersey, retteten Einsatzkräfte ungefähr 20 Menschen aus rasch steigendem Wasser.
* In #Connecticut waren zahlreiche Fahrzeug- und Bootsrettungen nötig.
* #Amtrak und #Metro-North wurden beeinträchtigt; der Abflugbereich des Flughafens #NewHaven musste schließen.

Getting new trains for the Amtrak cascades is great, but our state should be doing more to expand and increase rail usage

This includes both supporting running trains more frequently AND looking to build rail to reach more parts of the state

Our infrastructure is so raggedy. Taking #Amtrak from Pittsfield to Schenectady & ended up taking a Lyft from Albany for more that the price of the train ticket. I bet that train is still there.

tinkering ts outta this!

JetBlue package $620 - weird morph of hotel $ into package, 230 airfare (doubled since last checked) so $400/2 ppl/ 4 nights = $50 a person per night for a sweet hotel

Might eat airfare tix for package deal. Tho #Amtrak is $120 RT... #LifeMart trick up my sleeve for hotels

Legs stretched all the way out and still room to spare on the Borealis train between Chicago and Minneapolis. #amtrak

Ride the #Amtrak across the country- and leave your car behind.

OK, here's one more fun thing about the train:

People stop and wave at you.

A couple out walking their dog on a snowy day in the mountains among tall pine trees.
@causticautistic.bsky.socialSep 10, 2026, 6:22 AM

Like for all the time going past #DonnerLake, it wasn't easy to get a clean shot.

#Amtrak #CaliforniaZephyr #viewsfromatrain #traintravel #trains #mountains #lakes #mountainlake #reflection #pinetrees #clouds #nature #naturephotography #photography #photosky

A line of snowy mountains reflected in the mountain lake below. Pine trees and snow fill the foreground. A similar shot, looking straight at the mountain.
@causticautistic.bsky.socialSep 10, 2026, 6:05 AM

It's actually harder than you might think to not have 1 stupid tree blocking a whole mountain.

#Amtrak #CoastStarlight #viewsfromatrain #traintravel #trains #mountains #lakes #mountainlake #reflection #pinetrees #clouds #nature #naturephotography #photography #photosky

A mountain in the distance is reflected off the glass-like surface of a lake. Whispy clouds line the sky. A few pine trees stand in front of the lake behind a snow bank.
@causticautistic.bsky.socialSep 10, 2026, 5:56 AM

Yep. Just sitting back, nice and warm, listening to music, snacking, and looking out the window.

#Amtrak #CaliforniaZephyr #viewsfromatrain #traintravel #trains #mountains #winter #wintertime #snow #clouds #cloudyday #thesun #nature #naturephotography #photography #photosky

The sun shines behind whispy clouds high in thy sky. A line of puffier clouds sits just above a ridge of snow-covered mountains. Shrubs dot the snowy foreground.
@causticautistic.bsky.socialSep 10, 2026, 5:48 AM

Like yeah, there's a highway over there, but—and maybe this is just me—I'd rather sit back on a train, feet up, sipping a cocktail with noise canceling headphones on than driving.

#Amtrak #CaliforniaZephyr #viewsfromatrain #traintravel #trains #monochrome #blackandwhite #bnw #photography #photosky

A train snakes around a snow-covered valley in the mountains, highway on the opposite side. Water droplets drip down the window though which the picture was taken.
@causticautistic.bsky.socialSep 10, 2026, 5:03 AM

Just revisiting some #viewsfromatrain.

#Amtrak #SouthwestChief, somewhere in the #southwest.

#trains #traintracks #powerlines #desert #clouds #cloudyday #photography #photosky

A train track curves between small trees towards a hill in the distance. Power lines cross overhead. White clouds stretch across a blue sky.
