Looking out a train window at a mountain range though a pine forest.

Arriving in beautiful Oakland, California.

A large round concrete storage tank along the shore as seen from the train. It's covered in graffiti.

Just passing through.

A concrete wall holding up a bridge over train tracks. It's covered with tags and there's snow on the ground.

Way better than driving.

A snowy field with some fence posts stretching to the mountains in the background, the sun shining behind a sky full of clouds. A few droplets of water dot the window the shot was taken from.

OK, here's one more fun thing about the train:

People stop and wave at you.

A couple out walking their dog on a snowy day in the mountains among tall pine trees.

@causticautistic.bsky.social Sep 10, 2026, 6:22 AM

Like for all the time going past #DonnerLake, it wasn't easy to get a clean shot.

A line of snowy mountains reflected in the mountain lake below. Pine trees and snow fill the foreground.

A similar shot, looking straight at the mountain.

@causticautistic.bsky.social Sep 10, 2026, 6:05 AM

It's actually harder than you might think to not have 1 stupid tree blocking a whole mountain.

#Amtrak #CoastStarlight #viewsfromatrain #traintravel #trains #mountains #lakes #mountainlake #reflection #pinetrees #clouds #nature #naturephotography #photography #photosky

A mountain in the distance is reflected off the glass-like surface of a lake. Whispy clouds line the sky. A few pine trees stand in front of the lake behind a snow bank.

@causticautistic.bsky.social Sep 10, 2026, 5:56 AM

Yep. Just sitting back, nice and warm, listening to music, snacking, and looking out the window.

#Amtrak #CaliforniaZephyr #viewsfromatrain #traintravel #trains #mountains #winter #wintertime #snow #clouds #cloudyday #thesun #nature #naturephotography #photography #photosky

The sun shines behind whispy clouds high in thy sky. A line of puffier clouds sits just above a ridge of snow-covered mountains. Shrubs dot the snowy foreground.

@causticautistic.bsky.social Sep 10, 2026, 5:48 AM

Like yeah, there's a highway over there, but—and maybe this is just me—I'd rather sit back on a train, feet up, sipping a cocktail with noise canceling headphones on than driving.

#Amtrak #CaliforniaZephyr #viewsfromatrain #traintravel #trains #monochrome #blackandwhite #bnw #photography #photosky

A train snakes around a snow-covered valley in the mountains, highway on the opposite side. Water droplets drip down the window though which the picture was taken.

Just revisiting some #viewsfromatrain.

#Amtrak #SouthwestChief, somewhere in the #southwest.

#trains #traintracks #powerlines #desert #clouds #cloudyday #photography #photosky

A train track curves between small trees towards a hill in the distance. Power lines cross overhead. White clouds stretch across a blue sky.

Was also in the last car on the #SunsetLimited. Pretty sure this was going east... somewhere in Texas, maybe?

My car was the last one on the train, which meant I could get some shots like this.

#Amtrak #SouthwestChief #viewsfromatrain #traintravel #trains #traintracks #nature #naturephotography #desert #plains #wideopenspaces #clouds #photography #photosky

Another stretch of train track stretching off into the distance on a flat plain, clouds low along the horizon and dotting either side of the frame lit by late afternoon sun.

Two sets of train tracks extending off into the distance in the desert, a butte on the horizon under a clear blue sky.

A train just went through.

You can see its tracks.

A train track winds off into the distance among the occasional shrub. A butte sits on the horizon under a gray cloudy sky.

A red-orange sunset on a cloudy night reflected on the water.

Happy #Stunday.

#Amtrak #EmpireBuilder #viewsfromatrain #trains #river #bridge #reflection #clouds #cloudyday #nature #naturephotography #photography #photosky

An old stone bridge reflected on the river it's crossing. A brick factory sits on the bank. The sky is mostly covered with whispy white clouds.

Two intertwined pine trees stand in front of a highway, significantly taller than the wooded mountains behind.
