I think of German resistance during WWII - when the government is clearly in the wrong and committing atrocities, then people of good conscience have a responsibility to do something. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekMyEnemyMyAlly
Implication is the total domination of other countries. To be honest, I find this aspect a little far-fetched from a scientific perspective, but there's a little bit of magic in Star Trek 🪄✨ #TrekBookClub #StarTrekMyEnemyMyAlly
It would be like Al Qaeda trying to get on an aircraft carrier and saying they want to be our friend and ally in defeating Bin Laden #TrekBookClub #StarTrekMyEnemyMyAlly
I liked the first several seasons of Doctor Who, but then I realized that the plot for every episode was the same, so I stopped watching. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekMyEnemyMyAlly
She seems like a vengeful person but also determined, which is a powerful combination. Given that she is a super genius (see the chess match later on), I wouldn't want to mess with the 5' nothing woman. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekMyEnemyMyAlly

They already exiled her to the neutral zone or thereabouts and were probably trying to kill her, so what could she lose more?
I like the Romulans--especially the fact that they from the same lineage as Vulcans yet very different. I liked the Romulan eps from TNG (The Neutral Zone, The Enemy, Face of the Enemy) I liked Cretak in DS9. #trekbookclub #startrekmyenemymyally
19c. Just a reminder of Simon and Schuster’s September Trek e-book sale (at least in the US). There is something for everyone.

I really liked the Romulan commander from "The Enterprise Incident". It's a shame we only saw her once. As for Ael--while she's unhappy w/her niece's fate, I think she realizes Kirk & co. did what they had to as soldiers. I feel that her niece would as well. #trekbookclub #startrekmyenemymyally

Knowing how personal a mind-meld is, it says a lot that she trusts him enough to agree. Yes, she has to prove she's telling the truth, but Spock is going to learn more. He's going to learn about the type of person she is, and she'll learn the same about him. #trekbookclub #startrekmyenemymyally

19a. The Romulans were one of the Federation’s earliest adversaries, starting with TOS’ “Balance of Terror”. What do you think of them & their contributions to the franchise? What were some of your favorite Romulan episodes and characters?
#TrekBookClub #StarTrekMyEnemyMyAlly
Interesting both McCoy & Spock are against the plan but for different reasons. McCoy thinks it's insane; Spock thinks it is a good plan, but far too many things could go wrong. You have McCoy's emotional knee jerk reaction and Spock's thought out, logical one. #trekbookclub #startrekmyenemymyally
Something like this would tip the balance of power in the Alpha Quadrant if it was successful towards the Romulans. It's also a power which I don't think the Federation has had success dealing with (e.g. the Talosians in "The Cage").

The Romulan Commander was a favorite character of mine. She had strength and determination. Yet Spock influenced her. I think it brought shame to her to see her niece fall from grace. I think she would have considered revenge on Spock.I am glad she didn't.

18. During the meld, we learned more about the connection between Ael & the Romulan Commander from “The Enterprise Incident”. What did you think of the character? How did what happened to her on TOS affect her aunt, Ael, & her motivations/actions here?
#TrekBookClub #StarTrekMyEnemyMyAlly
The Doctor I grew up with was Tom Baker. I have seen others too. But he was the one that was memorable.
#TrekBookClub #StarTrekMyEnemyMyAlly
This is a good scene. There is much to be concerned about. McCoy is reason and Spock the logical one. With his mindmeld he would determine if she were truthful. Kirk is the deciding factor. Spock will let them know if she is truthful.

17. To help convince Kirk that Ael was telling the truth, she agreed to have Spock perform a Vulcan mind meld with her. What did Kirk, Spock (and us) learn about Ael through the meld? Conversely, what did she learn through the meld?
