The memoswipe is thorough. I don't even remember my name. It's a weird sort of amnesia. I've retained skillsets, and like a #palimpsest, my mind even retains ghosts from the past, remembrances just out of reach.

What the main character of my new space opera #WIP might say

If only we could erase our mistakes as easily as we can create a #palimpsest.

Don't like the way your life is going? Scrape it clean and write a new life on the page. Live the #palimpsest instead of living the dogma.

Papered Over

Palimpsest:
America
Lies,
Incredulously
Making
Promissory
Statements,
Empty,
Satirizing
Trustworthiness.

i a mere human
a second
in this time

then as i'm digging
i discover
most of them
a #palimpsest of this story
of where i came from

slaves
and their owners
blood
is not so thin

Mordhard looked at the partially revealed text. The word #palimpsest was foreign to him but now seeing what the scholars meant, it opened to him like the past was opening on the skin. “I see a familiar name there. The high king Ulthoor from the Spine of the World.” #vss365

“We record the layers as we peel back the history.” Plutius poured another chemical on top of the skin and wiped it with a piece of cloth. Parts of the surface departed without a fight. “ #Palimpsest like these are rewarding as skin is durable. Papyrus is near impossible.” #vss365

“The era of recovery resists actual recovery by us. The resources of that time were limited. The beasts marched around freely and recording things was hard, if not impossible.” Plutius applied a thin layer of chemicals on the #palimpsest made of a piece of skin. #vss365

‘Wrong date, you idiot. Scrape those letters off & use the right one.’

‘What? Like a #palimpsest?’

‘Are you insulting my intelligence by using a big word?’

‘No. It’s just a word for the paper when you scrape off the old to put down a new layer.’

‘Whatever. Just fix the ransom note.’

My old writing still shows through
#palimpsest of the past
rubbing and washing failed
it refused to be removed
stubborn like the one carrying it
my forearm is sore

= moving pictures =

the blue star cult
targets tabula rasa
but the bones object
at best, become a palimpsest
where ghosts will flit
between the lines
with teeth

The first had golden hair
Her braids led to a lair
The second danced around a fire
Distracted them with pure desire
The third made scheming plans
Trapped them, tied their hands
The fourth brewed glowing potions
Soon owned their full emotions
Like human #palimpsest
Now husbands to a coven
#vss365

all that remains
a #palimpsest
the words have long worn away
but the echoes of us
still shine through

Worth the Paper it’s Printed on?

As he tries to make The Constitution
Into a mere palimpsest
Let’s help him to an institution
Where the care won’t be the best
How about imprisonment
A not so nice detention
He’ll get back all his intent
We’ll have lifelong prevention

Usually, I believe the insecure girl I used to be has been overwritten by a confident woman who knows her worth. But like a stubborn #palimpsest, words sometimes bleed through that tell me I am not enough, that I am a disappointment. I live bolder to overshadow them.

The first syllable of ‘palimpsest’ is stressed,
So, I’ve learned that it’s not an anapest.
A dactyl or cretic, depending on the context.
Language is so layered, and leaves me perplexed!
