NASA built DART to crash into an asteroid on purpose.
It hit Dimorphos at 22,000 km/h to test asteroid deflection.
The impact changed Dimorphos's orbit by about 33 minutes.

I had the pleasure of presenting our work on #asteroid #Kamoʻoalewa at #EPSC2026 on Monday.
Is Earth’s unusual quasi-satellite a fragment of the Moon, or an asteroid delivered from the main belt? Our results strongly favour the latter.

Impact! 🪨🌎 For only the 13th time, scientists discovered an #asteroid before impact. About 6 hours before the space rock hit #Earth's atmosphere on Sunday, the Mount Lemmon Observatory - as part of the Catalina Sky Survey - spotted it for the 1st time.

Next asteroid close approach: 2026 RN1 on 2026-Sep-06, flying by at ~4.8 lunar distances or 1,848,057 km.

It's a cosmic neighborhood highlight, not a threat.
