Pte Albert Pedley, 18 years old, lost his young life 108 years ago today.

Today, I took his great niece to his final places on earth, around the village of Ronssoy.

Then, we paid respect to him at Vis-en-Artois #CWGC.

A privilege to do this on behalf of @sophie1wwtours.bsky.social

Prior to WW1 there were interesting concepts for specialised AFVs like Maj. Palliser's AFV based on the Ivel tractor of 1903 proposed as a mobile fort, ammo carrier, or armoured ambulance. tanks-encyclopedia.com/ww1/uk/ivel-... #Tanks #AFV #History #WW1

The Voie Sacrée (Sacred Way) is the road that took troops and supplies to defend the vital city of Verdun in the First World War.

The road is now numbered RD1916 in tribute to its vital role in that year, and since 1923 it has been marked every kilometre by one of these bornes.
