#HowWeStand poignantly uses the stories of 3 sisters to examine different policies that negatively affected Indigenous peoples in the US. Read @sarahgopaul.bsky.social's review for the #TIFF2026 film

#TIFF26 Movie No. 7:
I’m gonna have to sit with #BuckingFastard for a few days. ‘Cuz that was something, boy!
What I can say is that it’s gorgeously shot w great performances by both Mara sisters. But never have I been THIS engaged in a story that went nowhere.

#TIFF26 Movie No. 4:
#WildHorseNine is a just a powerhouse performance by #JohnMalkovitch in a weirdly dark, funny and twisted comedy. #SamRockwell excelts in a signature straight man performance. With a story that gets weird as it goes on. In the greatest way.

Netflix is banking a lot on #LaBolaNegra, and for good reason. A sweeping, romantic historical epic that explores queerness across multiple generations, there isn't another movie like it this awards season. #TIFF2026
#TIFF26 Movie No. 5:
#BeingHuemann follows the true story of a US civil rights victory for & by people w disabilities in an inspirational movie that hits all the right notes you’d expect. A heartwarming story with a great message behind it.
#TIFF26 Movie No. 6:
#TheDifficultBride lives up to its promise of a feminist drama that examines the other side of women trapped in a society through its standards of beauty. Unfortunately, many of its themes felt only skin-deep, despite its ambitious story.
There should be Oscar buzz for Lea Seydoux's emotionally raw performance in #GentleMonster, an unnerving drama about a wife struggling with a dark truth learned about her husband. #TIFF2026
Really loved The Julia Set. Chase Infiniti is fantastic, giving another natural, confident performance that proves One Battle After Another was no fluke. She’s the real deal, and this smart, engaging film gives her another great showcase.
Really enjoyed Le Faux Soir. Excellent pacing and editing keep it moving like a heist film, while its story of ordinary people fighting back against Nazis with satire, information, the power of the press and courage feels incredibly relevant today.
In Alaska is frustrating because there’s a good movie somewhere in there.
There are scenes that feel oddly cut together or end before they’ve really had a chance to breathe, and that kept pulling me out of what should have been a much more emotionally involving story.
Scream Queens Jane Levy and Jessica Rothe lead the satisfying throwback slasher flick, RIVER, which is sure to be a Shudder favorite when it opens. #TIFF2026
Filmmaker Cristian Mungiu leaves his native Romania to explore cultural polarization in Norway with an earnest curiosity. @robatss reviews the widely celebrated Palme d'Or winner, Fjord, at #TIFF2026

TRASH MOUNTAIN: Caleb Hearon was already a killer stand-up, though his feature writing debut proves he's got so many more creative muscles to flex. He makes this dramedy into something more, uncovering plenty of emotional and comedic treasures 📽️
