The Admiralty rejected this as improper, as the Amphitrite's officers had not been on trial and had not been able to defend themselves. A new court martial was therefore held on the cruiser's navigating officer and officer of the watch, who were cleared of blame. [3/3] #WW1 #RoyalNavy #NavalHistory

Sloop of the Royal Navy

For other ships with the same name, see HMS Drake and HMS Resolution. HMS Resolution was a sloop of the Royal Navy, a converted merchant collier purchased by the Navy and adapted, in which Captain James Cook made his second and third voyages of exploration in the Pacific. She impressed him enough that he called her "the ship of my choice", and "the fittest for service of any I have seen".Photo, no description
