This single-ship action, the 'Battle of Lake Pontchartrain', effectively eliminated the Royal Navy from the lake and local waterways, leaving British West Florida more vulnerable to Spanish and American attacks and hastening the end of British control of the region. [3/3] #RoyalNavy #NavalHistory

The bomb vessel and the schooner were some distance off as the action ended, and were making sail to get away, but the Amphitrite cut up the schooner's sails and rigging with very precise long-range shots, and she had to surrender. The bomb vessel did manage to escape. [3/3] #RoyalNavy #NavalHistory

The Amazone gave chase, and the Ariel, finding herself quickly overhauled, waited for the French frigate to come up and opened fire. A fierce battle began, lasting 90 minutes before the Ariel, with 4 dead, 20 wounded, and mizzen mast shot away, finally surrendered. [2/2] #RoyalNavy #NavalHistory

The nearest ship raised French colours and opened fire, and after a short chase the Dolphin, unable to offer any effective resistance, surrendered. Her captors were 32-gun frigates Dédaigneuse and Charmante, and their prize HMS Active, captured ten days earlier. [3/3] #RoyalNavy #NavalHistory

During my recent stay in London I have tried to track down some places relevant to Cochrane's life.

1 Cock Lane
Mr. King's tin factory Cochrane went to on the morning when the Great Stock Exchange Fraud happened.
This is where the original building stood.
