A Nothern Gannet in flight across the sky. The bird is centre of the shot, to the right slightly and flying from right to left.
It has a long pointed bill which is blue-grey in colour. Its black skin can be seen around the bill and eye. It has a yellowish colouration around the head and neck and a snowy white body. The outer half of its wings, which are in a downbeat, are black.
The sky is a blend of blue and white, out of focus and featureless

How far does a young Galápagos red-footed booby roam when it first leaves home? On Genovesa, not far. GPS tracking in 2014 put juveniles' farthest points at about 3.6 km from the colony. Adults': about 203 km.

For me an Arctic Skua in full on pursuit mode is one of the most exciting sights in birding - such breathtaking effortless agility at speed - they are often very persistent in quite prolonged chases, though by no means always successful. Off Dungeness last week.

I've become more & more obsessed with seabirds in recent years, with all the Skua species amongst my favourites. So it was terrific to see numbers of Arctic Skuas patrolling the tern flocks off Dungeness last week, a few light phase birds but most were dark phase ads & juvs.

Many delightful juv/imm & adult Common Terns amongst the numbers of Sandwich Terns, with a few Arctics & Black Terns & a couple of Little Terns passing Dungeness in my several sessions seawatching there last week.

We often want to see birds close up but there are times a bird seen at distance can briefly lift the heart and make you smile. Such as this Gannet and it’s brilliant white wings and black tips seen far out to sea at #Cullercoats (UK) #Seabirds #Birds
