They really don't warn you growing up that losing a best friend can be just as painful as losing a lover. Years now, and it's only dulled with time...

Text:
Title - I Lost Mine
"They say we have several soul mates
It felt like you were one of mine
Ten years went by of just you and I
Nights, days, weeks spent together
One moment it was us, the next only me
Left a hole in my soul that won't get better
A wound in me like a chopped down tree
They say we have several soul mates
I lost one of mine."

Image:
Behind the poem is an image of the night sky, filled with stars and galaxies. A man stands in complete shadow, looking up at the sky with hands in his pockets. Only joined by an evergreen, standing opposite of him, also entirely in shadow.

I Am Less Afraid of the Sadness
It doesn’t surprise me anymore.
I know how to sit with it.
That familiarity doesn’t mean I like it.
It means I survive it better.

something of us
must keep changing
to remain

the flame survives
by renouncing
each shape
it becomes

what is relinquished
becomes its light

Leaving a book review for a poet—especially an indie, self-published, or small-press poet—is one of the most powerful things a reader can do.

Text in alt

She walked with her head down
To family dollar
Her clothes black as night
Like a depressed mage
Her hair, tied up in a pink bandanna
The last sign of the girl, that now
Covered whispy grays
As she left, the sun shone divine
Under an eye blue sky
An orange butterfly
Mysteriously greeted her
Hope came to roost
In the eaves of her heart
She gasped like a girl who forgot how to start
Her eyes bursting wide
Like two strawberry pies
Her grandmother once baked in the twinkling twilight
And now she knows
Shes on the right path
On this day,
The night will last
And her dress
Would twirl again
Like it did once, when she was seven.
