In a thicket in the wood
Lay my peace
Vale shrouded in the darkest night
I trudged through frozen snow
Mud caked my boots
Until I was cut quick to the bone
But the song leads me on
The purpose of home
I picture in my heart
A sunlit valley
No longer tainted
By the blood soaked into the shaken roots
The militiamen lock their sights on me
Cruelty in their hearts
Malice in their eyes
They guard the pathway back
I press on
The forest is swift,
Earth's vengeance is timeless and true
And my home lies there
Just past the dark thicketed wood
The light beckons my heart
I cannot let darkness win
We must light little candles in our heart
To guide our way
Without the tinder
How can we kindle
What little agape remains
From our purloined breadcrumbs
The soldiers have hearts of stone
Yet I know these woods, I know these roads
They will not take my home from me
It lays right there,
You see?
In the sunlight,
Just past the thicketed wood.
And I would die to see it.
