The biomatter that was harvested from Vulcans. This material would be then grafted to Romulan patients to allow them the mental telepathy and other mental powers of Vulcans to give Romulans a upper hand in their clandestine operations.

I sure do love subterfuge when it is necessary. Thois had to take great planning for this mock battle to demonstrate that the Bloodwing and Aei were still on the Romulan side.

They definitely crossed the line. I think when they learned about Vulcan touch telepathy, they saw an opportunity. It must have peeved many that this was a skill that their people must've had and lost. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekMyEnemyMyAlly

25. We get more details about the mission – what needs to be destroyed? Why do you think the Romulans were pursuing such a project using the Vulcans? Did the Romulans “cross the line”?

The multiple names reminds me of the "naming of cats" in CATS. Names equal identity to Romulans that's why they are so important. I love how they have a public name and a personal name which is only known to their most intimate associates. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekMyEnemyMyAlly

They had to trust one another. It had to look believable but they were leaving themselves vulnerable to attack--Bloodwing by the Enterprise, or vice versa--if Kirk or Ael double-crossed one another. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekMyEnemyMyAlly

Yes. I think I first it was a question of "I trust my commander more than I trust you." but I think they did truly end up respecting one another. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekMyEnemyMyAlly

With them being xenophobic, it must have been culture shock being on the Enterprise. How all these different people working together aboard a Starship. I loved that Diane had a Horta onboard.

24. In another piece of world building, Ael explained to Kirk the importance of and talking about one’s name. What do names signify in Romulan culture/society?

They sure didn't like his plan and having an enemy agent amongst their ranks made them 10 times uncomfortable. With Kirk's coaxing, they changed their minds reluctantly.

23. There was a confrontation and subsequent "space battle" between the Enterprise and the Bloodwing as additional Romulan reinforcements arrive. How was Kirk and Ael able to work together to result in a successful outcome?

22. The Romulans sent Commander LLunih to check on Ael. Due to team work between the two crews (which included a fake fight), they were able to trick him. Was this a sign of greater cooperation between the two crews?

Space is an economy on Romulan ships, so she views the Enterprise as luxurious (I'm sure the rec room was a shock). Plus, she's very surprised at the diversity in the ship's crew since Romulans don't have that-- officers are all Romulan. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekMyEnemyMyAlly

It was expected. 1) Ael could have been leading them into trap and 2) Even if she wasn't, the risk of capture was too great.

I think they ultimately agreed because they trusted Kirk's judgement and agreed that weapon was far too dangerous. It had to be stopped. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekMyEnemyMyAlly

21. Ael was adjusting to being on a Federation starship and learning more about the Federation and Starfleet. What were some things she saw that surprised her?

20. The other captains who were part of Kirk's task force were initially wary of Ael and her proposed plan of action. Was that expected? Were they too cautious? What led Kirk and the other captains of the fleet to agree to her plan?

They're a very interesting enemy. I wish we got more of them in the series and, to be honest, the Romulan sun going supernova is a little bit of a bummer. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekMyEnemyMyAlly

I wanna briefly mention that I really liked the sister's daughter aspect - it's like a knight in chess - goes to the side and down some. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekMyEnemyMyAlly

They learned she was telling the truth. She also learned a lot about herself through the affair - what she could share and what she wouldn't. I liked the description of the experience. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekMyEnemyMyAlly

Bones is a negative Nelly like always, Spock is logical, and Kirk has to come to a balance between them. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekMyEnemyMyAlly
