The four that I teach are HEAVY on writing and I get loads of freedom within those classes. I helped write the college writing prep class curriculum and I'm rewriting on the fly. It's kind of fun. But like I said, I'm lucky. #kidlitchat

Zoom doesn't have quite the same magic as an in-person visit, but if you work with the teachers/librarian in advance to prepare, it can be a truly magical experience in its own way. I've had some wonderful Zoom visits with schools I couldn't travel to in person! #KidLitChat
I was a reading interventionist, so was not ever the ELA teacher of record. It gave me a lot of freedom. #kidlitchat
That sound like fun. I love fractured fairy tales. #kidlitchat
Speaking of presentations, has anyone done one at a conference? Those "how the book got made" sessions were always some of my favorites. #kidlitchat
I'm lucky. I have five section that I teach. Four of the five are for students that have already passed the state ELA test, so I'm relatively unfettered. #kidlitchat
Agreed. I've just seen a lot super famous authors do them so they can reach around the country to places they don't normally go. I think it has merit in some respects, but it's not ideal for the reasons you mention. #kidlitchat
I love when I get to read other people's books at an event! I had an amazing storytime in August where the theme was fractured fairy tales, so of course I read my own The Princess and the Frogs, but I also got to read 3 or 4 other fun fractured fairy tales. :) #KidLitChat
<3 <3 <3 Giving her all the extra hugs! Thanks #KidLitChat
My friend invited me to a book festival she was doing. And then she had Laryngitis so I had to read her book for her. EEK! SO I got to practice just incase I ever have that opportunity for my own book #kidlitchat
Zoom isn't my favorite w kids. Administration likes them because they're less expensive, but the electricity w the kids isn't the same. And the value of #authorvisits is kids' excitement in seeing a human behind the book. Plus, kids fire me up & I know I'm a better presenter in person. #kidlitchat
Regarding whatever they're doing in class already, if you can enhance or expand that learning by teaching the standards, administration will be much more likely to approve the visit. #kidlitchat
Yeah, you'd think by the time they're in college, they'd be old enough to understand that bullying is not okay. But it seems to just get meaner. I'm always prepared for a cookie emergency--but today required a bit of extra love and a fresh batch made specifically for her. #KidLitChat
Thatâs awful! đ˘ Iâm so sorry! #kidlitchat
So sorry to hear about your daughter.
But love the yummy S'mores Cookies. #KidLitChat
School visits are one of my favorite things about being an author!! I love the big, multi-class assembly-style presentations, the small-group workshops, the Q&A sessions, table meet-and-greets on book fair nights... Any time I get to be in the school with the readers is a good time! #KidLitChat
I can easily imagine the writers not being willing to be vetted. Especially if they were visiting without pay. I know I'd probably balk, unless there was a compelling reason to visit, like a staff member or student from my family. #kidlitchat
This is ridiculous and everyone In education knows it!
When I was in grad school (for education) I had a professor who said âweighing a pig every week isnât what makes them growâ meaning testing isnât teaching and doesnât make them better learners. #kidlitchat
