For #hillfortswednesday a peek at #Ilbury Camp Hillfort, Nether Worton, #Oxfordshire. It's a univallate Iron Age Hillfort sitting on a promontory ridge and commands great views of the landscape all around.
The giant earth ripples of Hambledon Hill last Sunday. Lay in the wind-shade on top, ate lunch and watched kites, buzzards and crows against the blue, isolated cirrus skeins drifting eastward high over Blackmore Vale βΊοΈ

Stonea, Cambridgeshire, a Fenland Iron Age enclosure or Britain's lowest 'Hillfort'. Later contained a Roman settlement with a multi-story tower that must have dominated the entire landscape for miles. 1/3

Walked the ramparts of enormous Uley Bury hillfort, Gloucestershire, at the weekend. Lovely views and a whole series of hollow ways in the area - perhaps some date back to the Iron Age? #HillfortsWednesday

The coastal promontory #hillfort at Dinas Gynfor, Anglesey. The landward defences of limestone blocks are largely hidden in bracken but can be seen tracing a line on the right in the 2nd photo. A distant view of Hambledon Hill - an Iron Age hill fort, near Blandford Forum in Dorset. πΈ My own. #HillfortsWednesday #HambledonHill #Dorset
The double stone ramparts of White Tor Neolithic hill enclosure. An atmospheric place. My daughter immediately climbed to the top of the large central rock and I wondered, how many Neolithic and Bronze Age children did exactly that, thousands of years ago?

The mighty Neolithic fortified hill enclosure of White Tor, Dartmoor. Two huge granite rubble ramparts, structures and cairns, all covered in infinitely slow growing white lichen, built up against the existing castle like black rocks that jut out of the tor. Stunning 360 views.

Bisected by road and half covered in trees, the multivallate Iron Age hillfort of Milber Down #Devon can be difficult to fully appreciate on the ground
