Good morning! Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme chosen by @helenbennett.bsky.social is #BokehBirds - any bird captured with a soft, muted or blurry background. Alt: theme #AwkwardAvian - any bird captured in a silly, clumsy or strange position! 🪶❤️

Here are my choices.

Alt: #AwkwardAvian - any bird captured in a silly, clumsy or strange position!

The gray heron is depicted in a dynamic moment of landing. It is positioned with its legs descending towards the water, and its large, distinctive gray wings fully outstretched in mid-flap to control its descent. In the foreground, a cormorant is swimming nearby, its head turned back as if observing the landing bird. The setting includes dry reeds and a wooden fence, with ripples on the water reflecting the movement. This shot effectively captures the interaction and difference in behavior between the two bird species.

Busy work day with a new release going out, but just enough time to pop in and respond to Helen's @helenbennett.bsky.social #BirdOfTheDay theme of #BokehBirds, spoiled(?) by the arrival of an #AwkwardAvian photo-bombing cardinal ... typical males!

Enjoy your Monday everyone! 🦉🐦📷

From Helen Bennett today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #BokehBirds with an Alt: #AwkwardAvian

Male Broad-tailed Hummingbird looks a little awkward taking off. But only for a moment!

A hummingbird with iridescent green head and sides and magenta bib against a fuzzy background. His wings are swept back and his feet are fully extended as he leaps into the air to take off.

For today’s #BirdOfTheDay Alt theme #AwkwardAvian, birds in a silly, clumsy or strange position, I offer 2 Egyptian Geese (Alopochen aegyptiaca) that we saw in South Africa interacting with each other. The tune that came to us was “Walk like an Egyptian.”

Photo of 2 large birds extending their necks out towards each other. The birds have mostly white heads with dark brown eye spots, beaks that are dark on the bottom and white on the top, long mottled brown & gray necks with a dark brown ring at the base of their necks. They have grayish bodies and bellies, dark brown wings with bright white streaks at the bottom edgs of the wings, dark brown & black rumps & tails, and reddish webbed feet.
They are walking on a rough green lawn in the shade, with a sunny lawn at the top of the photo.
Text says, "Walk like an Egyptian Goose"
