The infant has complex needs, which are as complex and de- manding as those that are taken care of by other species in the womb, and must rely on human adults, with all their flaws, shortcomings, and imperfections to somehow be able to attend to and satisfy them. Rarely can humans do it well, and never can they do it as well as Nature does for primates in the womb.

By comparison, all other mammals, when born, are more able to provide for themselves, are further along in their development toward independence when born, are more capable of bringing about or at least initiating the satisfaction of their needs . . . hence they are less dependent, and vulnerable, than are human infants.

Secondary altriciality in human infants means that there is a greater need for care, for “mothering” — because of the newborn’s greater helplessness, greater dependence, greater vulnerability — than that of all other mammals postnatally. However even the best mother- ing cannot be as perfect in satisfying the infant’s biological needs as was the situation for it in the womb. Hence, there is going to be a gap…

You see, I’m tired of doing your bidding for reasons bigger, I think much bigger, than just it being wrong and that this thievery perpetrated on the helpless is more feudal than economic, despite the big smokescreen of the god of capitalism or the supposed ‘free market.’

“No. And no matter how funny it might seem to you and your friends ... this pulling off of a prank, once again, of stealing from the poor, as you would see it, just a hilarious juvenile prank, like locking up a freshman in his own locker. Yes, I can hear you laughing. But as much as I think that cruel it is still not the really big reason I’m rebelling.

“You see, what’s been done again is so much exactly as it’s always been; no matter the talk of democracy or progress. It might as well be a time of kings and nobles, or any time or place in the past. There have always been ‘strong men’ or a ‘strong man’ at the center of human suffering. This story is the same old story of the rich making up rules to suit themselves that has been going on ever since humans stopped wandering and began living in stable groupings allowing some men to…

…inquiry and self-awareness is required for good scholarship is evident in that the field of anthropology, even early on, asserted that researchers needed to do their own therapy, uncover their own biases, before they could hope to interpret other cultures. The idea was that one needed to take back one’s personal unconscious projections to understand another culture. Which, by the way, is a shallower version of the message of this work that one must pull back all the Veils of projected early experience so as to better approach any overstanding of any larger Reality.

These early anthropologists — Ruth Benedict (1934), for example — were aware how their own cultures and personal histories influenced what they saw in others ... in their case, in other cultures. While they said self-inquiry should be done, it is not done now, if it ever really was. Lacking this self-awareness everything scientists come up with is riddled through with unconscious pain and the seemingly archetypal creations come of them.

Like any other paradigm, these earliest of our experiences will direct and constrain us even in terms of where we will look to explore. They force us to interpret the data we find into constructions of assumptions which skew and often reverse the interpretations that should arise from them. Yes, that should logically arrive from them.

However the outside world and its events are infinitely more random, haphazard, and uncertain than the events of any species before birth. Biology is simply a lot more consistent than are the actions of humans or the outside world. So those analogous needs of ours that are going to be imperfectly met because of the randomness of human action and the outside world are going to be met near perfectly and consistently for other species inside the biological confines of their existence before birth.

Thus our traumatic birth, plus our imperfect satisfaction of needs after birth, makes for a wide variety of types of humans and personalities. Yet all of them are in some way more deprived and stressed than they would be without those first two elements.

So the ones who are responsible for providing the satisfaction of those postnatal needs of the infant are going to be such impaired adults. Consider then how well they are likely to perform in providing for the excessive neediness of the newborn compared to the auto- matic and near perfect satisfaction of needs for other species at that same relative biological stage of development being in a perfectly providing biological surround of one sort or other.

…they’d made a similar mistake on earlier.

“Even the prankish filthy rich, looking out at the masses as oh, just way too many ants, were not pleased by the buffoonish, clownish behavior of the W, who couldn’t even pull off the pretense that he was working hard. Indeed, with his funny dances and playboy party behavior in the courts of the world and in front of the cameras of the world, he seemed to actually be trying to go down in history as being the realized human manifestation of that ‘mythical’ character known since the Fifties, and introduced to several generations of American males, in particular, usually in high school and junior high as that ‘What? Me Worry?’ idiot icon Alfred E. Neumann.

“Thus it seemed that Bush, who they thought would bring at least ‘good looks’ to the job, in the end seemed to be aiding the forces against them by playing into this notion that this idiot icon — Neumann — could have been some kind of freakish premonition of the coming of the W after the turn of the century.

THE DESCENTS OF MAN

• Nineteenth Descent — Soul Murder ... control of thoughts and self, avoidance-denial of pain, ultimate loss of empathy and conscience (the sociopaths of today and of history) and, thus, the ability to engage in war, hate crimes, burning of Jews and witches, genocides, ecocide, and to murder from afar and upon command.

So we arrive at our situation today, separated from Nature, inauthentic and confused about roles in life and proper ways of being in tune with our deepest selves, pervasively unhappy and driven ... in allegiance to unconscious pushes and pulls derivative of all our early traumas and emotional abuse, and about to bring down the whole shebang out of pure contrariness. Oh, what to do. Well, at this point we are thoroughly removed from Eden; we have cast aside natural ways. “By the sweat of our face we will eat our bread.” We have learned to work hard, to forgo pleasure. And we never look back, lest we be confronted by that burning pain of birth pain.

The result was a human beholden always to higher-ups and unconsciously craving acceptance and approval in all the actions of one’s life.

Why We Can’t Get No Satisfaction

Let us now add another factor to this development of supposed intelligence and culture. As I have been saying, altricial means humans are born helpless. We would die if not cared for. Secondary altriciality of humans, and only humans, means our brains and consequent functioning are even less advanced than other species at birth. We are, in essence, born premature relative to other species. We are born even more helpless. And the later development of our brains comes in a social, not biological, surround.

The period after birth requires that the newborn get its needs met indirectly, that is, through someone else. In the womb, one’s needs are handled automatically by Nature and biology. One does not have to cry in order to get nutrients. However, the human newborn, in order to get its needs met in that time of dependency must communicate. At the same time, it also helps to be non-fussy, to smile a lot, and to be adorable. So these social requirements — conflicting as some of them are (that is a whole other story; we’ll get to it) — are put upon our infants. Humans thus learn sycophancy and conformity right at the beginning, even prior to any enculturation in society which might push those tendencies even further.

I also watched as these Republican-speaking mouthpieces for the rich and for the economics of greed were more and more the only voices being heard.

Of Course, Of Course

Just at this point, the Mister Ed chart markings of the DOW began that nodding, as if to say,

“I’m tired of being propped up. I just want to lie down, to let my head hang low, to rest, to not have to confirm self-serving theories of rich people, using their wealth to make the biased and twisted thinking of their underlings to be sounded endlessly above the din of the moaning masses who year after year see their costs going up, wages stagnating, and their efforts, doubled, tripled, and beyond without being able to get their heads above it.
