People speak of "butterflies in the stomach," a "racing heart," being "choked up" or needing to "catch breath." Language routinely treats emotion and thought as though they inhabit the body. But why are events of the mind felt in the heart or stomach? #neuroskyence

It's actually real! Lovely to see it in actual print, including @catalinayang.bsky.social's beautiful cover image. Check out the digital, fully open access, version here: royalsocietypublishing.org/rstb/issue/3.... #neuroskyence

I fear that placing too much emphasis on a specific interpretation of dimensionality, or treating dimensionality as an end-all quantification of some aspect of neural computation, may lead us down the wrong path, writes @mattperich.bsky.social.

You know what I really love about writing grants? Nothing. There is absolutely nothing to like about writing grants. #neuroskyence

📣 Updated application link for the postdoc in my lab at UCL.

A great opportunity to develop neurotechnology for chronic pain using neural implants, in vivo recordings, and adaptive control in mice.

Applications are open now - please repost/share widely.

Our paper is now published in @natcomms.nature.com! We identified reproducible human reward-processing phenotypes analogous to sign- and goal-trackers and tested their sensitivity to dopamine D₂ modulation. 🧵 1/4

Of course, there are many, many more thoughts in my book, So You Want to be a Neuroscientist?, and I'm sure the good people of #neuroskyence have even more.

Happy to answer questions on this thread as well!

New NRP study: Exercise improves the course of Parkinson’s. The clinical benefit appears to be independent of the preservation of dopaminergic function. Possible mechanisms: non-dopaminergic networks and enhanced motor reserve. link.springer.com/article/10.1...

🧠 Low brain glucose may be more than a symptom of Tau disease. Hypometabolism and p-Tau synergize to trigger neuronal necroptosis via a p-Tau-RIPK1 hub. Restoring A20 or blocking the interaction eased brain atrophy in Tau mice. Preclinical, but striking.
