Ninth Descent — Farming

This increased our anxiety and mistrust and the consequent compulsion to control ... out of fear of lack of resources ... and the next part of Nature that compulsion was directed to was the plant kingdom. We began growing our food — horticulture — to augment our gathering and hunting. This led to farming, to the agrarian revolution, and to agriculture, in time.

Tenth Descent — Husbandry

Controlling now our food sources through planetmate flesh (meat) and the plant kingdom, the next step was naturally to begin growing those planetmates in place, just as we had their distant sister plants. This is called domestication of animals or animal husbandry.

Eleventh Descent — Sedentary Life and Storage

Now, all this sedentary living, required for farming and husbandry, made it that we could store more things, which we were not wont to do when we were nomadic and would have had to lug it with us. Hence, we were “settled” in place, and we stored things.

…somehow the pattern of molecules in a part of our bodies, inside ourselves, creates behavior. Things create actions; items in the physi- cal world impel beings to do particular things in particular ways, simply by the fact of their existence. This is like saying that my rock garden ... I’ll even give you, the pattern of my rock garden ... conceivably makes me, want to or not, get up at 7am, make coffee, put particular and specific clothes on, and travel in a particular car, to a particular place, to engage all day in particular and precise actions, at a particular job. Why, how fantastic!

Or, you might say, it is like our DNA are like gears in a magnifi- cent watch which, energy applied, results in all kinds of specific actions. However, this is looking at planetmates as things and objects — which is a byproduct of the objectification of Nature, wrought of our Newtonian-Cartesian dualism — which posits that the world is a machine with no consciousness. Disregarding for a minute the fact that that objectification of Nature is a mistake we make in our devolution from Nature through the process I am describing in this book, at least consider that reasoning has it that you do not exist either. Oh, your body exists, in this formulation, but you are not an experiencing being ... are you now? Hell, even mechanically you are reading these words with no consciousness or awareness in the mix!

PLANETMATES: THE GREAT REVEAL

“But cheer up,” said Ed, sarcastically. “You would no doubt qualify for Disability and at least wouldn’t have to work!”

“Do you still not see? That is how we see your species. We watch in disgust as you calmly go about feasting on your own entrails while still alive. We expect that you would, Hannibal- Lector style and before it is over, even try a bit of your own fried brain, nicely sautéed. Do you get it yet!?

“This is only one scenario; and with global warming, nuclear weapons, ozone loss, oil spills, nuclear meltdowns, and global radiation, it appears it may not even be the biggest danger to our survival — all of us — in an even shorter period. But again, have you no concept of how much your lives have been intertwined and dependent on all the other beings here for the entire time of your existence?

“What has happened to your people, so fearful as to give away their very souls, their very conscience, indeed, their very memories of their experiences and what they learned from them, for trinkets, for adulation of others who will — every one of them — be dead, will cease to exist along with everything else? So while your Republicans make a game…

Seventh Descent — Hunting

While in Nature, our needs were taken care of, but with this increasing mistrust and out of the fear that it engendered, we began thinking we needed to augment our vegetarian diet. We began killing planetmates, which we call hunting.

Eighth Descent — Murder

Killing planetmates, who are so much like us, and with the repression of conscience required, or, one might say the insensitivity, that came of that, we were able to kill each other. Cain killed Abel is the way The Bible expresses that, metaphorically.

Ninth Descent — Farming

This increased our anxiety and mistrust and the consequent compulsion to control ... out of fear of lack of resources ... and the next part of Nature that compulsion was directed to was the plant kingdom.

THE SECOND DESCENT — BIRTH TRAUMA

Page 17

…pelves, there was more and more pain to be repressed in order for the organism to not be overwhelmed during the course of its life. And this required continued, ever increasing, growth in neural cells, thus brain size, thus skull size. This increased to the point we are today where in order to fully gestate the brain we ended up with, we would have had to have a twenty-one-month gestation, which we never got. There had to be another way.

Human Nature

How we solved that problem of getting a big head out of a small opening, at this point in our evolution, was to be born earlier than would be ideal. The ever bigger skulls of neonates led to a tendency for newborns to be born more and more prematurely, for with skulls at smaller sizes these prematures would be able to make it out of the womb. Barely. The larger heads still meant greater pain for mothers as well as the newborns themselves than planetmates in Nature needed to endure.

PREFACE

…dominance rituals and displays — which have most often been used to support the idea of brutality in Nature — were ultimately found to have been distorted by the male researchers who did them. These primatologists were selective in their picking groups to study; they blew up the significance of the behaviors they witnessed; and they failed to mention behaviors that did not fit their conclusions. So their studies reflected more of the savagery in the human researchers than in the baboon planetmates.

As for warring and mass killing, well, no planetmate is doing anything to end life on this planet like humans are at the moment. Nor are any supposed “dumb” animals engaging in world wars or killing off millions of each other for reasons of collective campaigns of aggression, racism, imperialism, sexism, or religious hatred, like we regularly do

Finally: Have you ever heard of a planetmate other than humans who engage in torture?

Essentially we see in the world of Nature only that which we want to see. And of what we do see, we distort its meaning to rationalize and justify our own worst behavior.

PROLOGUE: PRIMAL PSYCHOLOGY, FARTHER REACHES OF EXPERIENCE

Page 36

…opening up to experiences that occurred before one’s birth and to the relatively contented state of early womb experience. One might need to re-member one’s euphoric blastocyst experience even further back, and sometimes, even, need to tap in to events and experiences before sperm experience, sometimes to connect with egg (ovum) experiences going all the way back to when one was a cell within the ovarian sac within one’s mother, in order to access these truly transformative reorientations to one’s world.

Furthermore, beyond these joy grids I postulated spiritual grids, which were spiritual and philosophical ways of living and perceiving reality and looking at the world, which were beyond the joy grids in both quality of beneficence and scope and in their access. What I discovered was that living the joy grids led to earlier primal experiences at the cellular level — specifically, sperm, egg, zygote, and blastocyst — which had characteristically spiritual components and that this coincided with life experience which brought those spiritual perspectives into practice and use and expanded and deepened them.

“But you wouldn’t care about that. So what I’m saying is that when these things you’ve done have led, as they have, to climatological disasters, floods, famines, and much else — which have cost so many of your lives — still does your kind not take the hint?

“The hint that if your kind is actually doing so much damage as to eradicate half of the species that still remain — the products of billions of years of, using your word, ‘divine’ orchestration.... Is your kind so fearful that they would rather die and kill us all rather than come to an obvious conclusion? That obviously....

“In all seriousness now....

“Hmm, I think only an analogy might give you the glimpse of what’s at stake: Imagine that a doctor told you that you were infected with a disease, a disease that won’t kill you just yet, but you will notice, unfortunately, that in a few decades, if not sooner ... and, oh, by the way you’ve probably already been feeling the effects because it’s already begun. Anyway, just be prepared that in roughly a few short decades you will have lost, in an entirely random manner, half of your body’s parts. I mean, organs, parts of organs, like glands, and so on. They will just be gone.

Sixth Descent — Mistrust

Both traumas — birth trauma and fetal malnutrition — contributed to the growth of that Ego and affected our personalities in many and varied ways. Part of this was the way it made imperfect humans even more lacking in caring for their infants. Thus we “acquired” even more primal pain because of insufficient satisfaction of needs.

Mistrust of Nature Led to Control Compulsion

Altogether we learned, early in our lives, that the world around us could not be relied on. Consequently, we began an ever-increasing mistrust of the world, which manifested, critically, in our relation to Nature and our feelings about how well we could have our needs met in it. Since we mistrusted, we began controlling. Control came in to fill the gap of mistrust that lay between need and satisfaction.
