Ontological slippage is the blurring of lines defining what is real. It is when we break categories like genres to alter the meanings of different things. It relates to part three with AI and how we let it dictate what we find to be real based on its mistakes. #hwa4 #wherethingsslip

I think the audio breaks rules concerning the singularity of language. We comprehend language one word and one definition at a time. By making one language sound like two, Yingelishi blocks our ability to comprehend either language and hear the space in between. #hwa4 #yingelishiparty

#hwa4 oh... hello there. thought my ad blocker would remove this interruption! it almost reminded me from the sun in teletubbies if it were NOT amused at all.

find a way to portray their explanation that also might preserve their own demeanor the public associates with them, for example. This would be a case of impression management since the translator/editor/teacher/etc. actively tries to "perform" for their audience in a specific way #hwa4

It showed me that being creative sometimes means trying something unfamiliar. #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes

Before listening to Yingelishi, I thought translation was mostly about changing words from one language to another while keeping the same meaning. Now I realize that sounds, emotions, and the way something is performed can also be important parts of translation. #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes

This experience made me realize that you don't always need to understand every word to appreciate something. Even when I couldn't fully follow the story, I could still listen to the voices and music and get something out of the performance. #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes

As the performance went on, especially toward the end, I started to get confused about what was happening. I realized that I was focusing so much on trying to understand the words that I wasn't paying as much attention to the music and the emotions being expressed. #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes

When I first started listening to Yingelishi, I was trying to understand the story and follow what was happening. I thought it was interesting how the music and different languages worked together, but it was also different from anything I had listened to before. #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes

I definitely see how impression management could be a reason for "unauthentic" translations across languages, but also texts within the same language (example of this being a textbook attempting to explain a concept at a different academic level, for example). The translator needs to #hwa4

The way that Yingelishi was explained kind of reminds me of that "yanny" or "laurel" audio that went viral. And how it was only "laurel" being played but just based off sound people heard a completely different name. #hwa4

Overall the video was very interesting and I started to follow along to the story but the last part confused me a bit. Even though I didn't fully understand the ending, I still thought it was interesting to see how the performers used music and poetry to tell a story. #hwa4#yingelishiparty

#hwa4 #lostandremade in a world of Urdu, everyone speaks almost exclusively in playful remarks and rhyme (ex: you're eating my head, or my mom's favorite, chai, shai); and then we lose the art of serious intimacy in long paragraphs. This keeps people from intelligent conversation.

The switch between music was not expected and I thought it was weird to listen to upbeat party music while reading about her getting robbed and screaming for help #hwa4#yingelishiparty

This was a very interesting listen. I think the slow pace and classical music added a lot to the story we heard. It illustrates the challenge of communicating across languages, along with the fusion of phonetics. #hwa4 ##yingelishiparty

The same words might create different emotions depending on who is singing them. #hwa4#yingelishiparty

I therefore definitely would agree that translation is not neutral. I like your point with the meanings being "filtered through the worldview" where underlying objectives can subtly be achieved through translation, whether they are intentional or unintentional. #hwa4

I wonder how long it took to find all these Chinese phrases that could actually sound like English and make real sense to someone that only spoke english #hwa4#yingelishiparty

@bluesbybridget.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 12:46 AM

This makes poetry feel more open to people from different backgrounds. #hwa4#yingelishiparty
