Goldstrum is very reliable, happy in a pot and can take a little more shade than most I think, it did well in my front garden anyway and rudbeckia and echinaceas usually hate it there #GardensHour

Aeonium 'Big Bang' is a striped version of the classic Aeonium 'Zwartkop' so it also needs its head chopping off regularly. #GardensHour

Evening all. It seems September could finally be the month for runner beans. After a week of rain and cooler temperatures, their flowers are finally setting. Behold - the first runner bean of 2026! #GardensHour 🌱

#GardensHour most of the potted plants on the deck are now scraggly except for this fuchsia that is still quite vibrant

Here in our Interior desert zone the grass turned green after two days of rain. (We’re in a drought here.) #GardensHour

It's Cyclamen time. We usually see the first Cyclamen hederifolium flower in July or August, but every plant is going for it now #cyclamen #GardensHour #plantsky #alpines #gardensky

#GardensHour September brings this small group of Autumn crocus-which I don’t remember planting but they’re a welcome colour addition to the end of Summer drabness

That’s the thing, it’s ALWAYS worth it in the end, I just find it so hard to make myself do it! #GardensHour

Late flowering perennials come into their own in September. Rudbeckias are especially useful; in this bed I planted ‘Goldstrum’ in front of ‘Prairie Glow’ exactly a year ago.

Aeonium 'Big Bang', 'Pink Witch' x 2, and a 'Kilimanjaro'. They are loving all the rain. #aeonium #succulents #GardensHour #plantsky #gardensky

It can be hard work and you have to wait months before you see the benefit, can't imagine spring without them though 🤔

Hello #GardensHour, for me September is all about the late roses, getting the bulbs in for next spring and indoor winter displays, and balancing the needs of the garden with the new allotment!

And, hopefully some raspberries…

My acer, its leaves don't change colour much in the autumn and they all fall of together in one go revealing a trunk with red bark and white stripes 🌱
