Day 24 - Drift

I decided to do a Pacific Rim AU thanks to @ashes8012.bsky.social !

#FFXIVwrite #FFXIVwrite2026

In the days before their first patrol, the amount of Kaijus coming out of the rift was unusually low. The Dragon Rampart mecha warrior was being flown by airship carriers over Paglath'an, landing just at the edge of the Southern Seas as morning light crested over the Eastern skies.

Dragon Rampart stepped into the ocean, the cousins inside using Garlondworks tech to drift their minds into each other. Their control of the machine was complete, so it was a surprise to the bridge commander in the airship above when they stopped moving.

"Dragon Rampart, what's going on down there?"

"Torazna sees something." Jacek replied. Jacek could see it too, thanks to the drift. There was a pulse of energy deep in the ocean, but approaching at terrifying speed.

#ffxivwrite2026 Day 12: Fusion
In which Alisaie and G'raha try out the neotaco now sold at Aunt Tii's taco stand (DT spoilers).

“What in the seventh hell is this?” Lounging in the seats outside Aunt Tii’s taco stand, Alisaie stared with barely concealed shock and bafflement at the… neotaco that now graced her plate. No more was the spilling sauce or sizzling meat or delectably spiced leafy vegetables. In its place was a thin piece of bread wrapped around some kind of paste.

Across her table, G’raha dug into his not-quite taco with as much fervor as he had when he first tasted the dish, though it wasn’t long before the grin on his face dissipated into a rather bemused, half pondering grimace.

“Hm, I’d heard Aunt Tii was expanding her business to Solution Nine but…” He swallowed, then scrutinized the meal like he would an ancient tome. “‘Tis a bit odd, like it’s missing texture.”

Writing Excerpt:
Behind the au ra, Byakaruso shrugged but with a knowing smile that he very prudently kept to himself. It hadn't taken much to sway that stubborn mind but it had indeed consumed the better of the morning—gone in the blink of an eye, really, if not less than. None of this charade mattered on its own.

day 24 - drift

excitement drifts and flows through the waking sands on heavensturn eve as the scions prepare to celebrate the ul’dahn way one last time before they make the move to mor dhona

[ #📝 | #ffxivwrite2026 | #ffxivwrite ]

From the moment that Amaris returned to the half-packed Waking Sands, there has been a dull roar of excitement drifting through the air for what seems to be almost everyone's favorite time of year — Heavensturn Eve.

It is strange to think that this will be our last turn here.." Minfilia had said when Amaris first slipped into the Solar. Her voice teetered from warm nostalgia and quiet longing, and in response, Flaminn suggested that if it was to be their last, they better make it count.

That was all Minfilia needed to hear for her to rush from the Solar into the common areas to encourage everyone into a celebration. Similarly, to their Antecedent, the rest of the Scions didn't need more than a single phrase to pull them into a festive spirit.

Some took to pulling together traditional Ul'dahn cuisines while others worked towards finding enough chairs and cushions for everyone to have a seat at their makeshift table. For anyone in between, they found other ways to help — to come together towards something fun for a change.

This is so beautiful, Amaris thinks to herself. The coming year will be governed by Nophica and she could not be more grateful. The Matron, Goddess of Abundance, is to bless the year in which they will reap what they have sown together, only to re-plant their seeds anew together.

The beauty of the moment doesn't just end with happy reverence nor does symbolism fill on an empty stomach.Amaris' attention is caught by the smell of freshly made millioncorn porridge wafting through the air. As her nose leads her, her eyes land on trays of vegetables that rival a rainbow in their color array.

"Best we can do with half a sun's notice." F'lhaminn says as she places a small crate of flatware in Amaris' arms before looking over the table. "Though, it didn't turn out too bad." She adds, a proud smile tugging at her lips.

"It looks delicious." Amaris agrees, smiling as she looks from the table to the flatware and back to the table. There is far too many sets, nearly double the amount needed.

"Use them all." F'lhaminn says, catching Amaris' confusion. "It's an Ul'dahn tradition to set a place for those who have gone beyond the veil in the past year." She explains and the meaning hits Amaris quickly.

Aulie and A'aba's faces flash in her mind but for the first time since that day, she doesn't waver. In fact, she smiles fondly as she picks up two sets of flatware.

"Can these go next to Arenvald and I?" Amaris asks.

"Wherever you'd like." F'lhaminn replies.

She lays out each set, the table coming together piece by piece. Really and truly beautiful, Amaris corrects.

#ffxivwrite2026 Day 24: Drift
In which Nayra's mind drifts away like a leaf upon the riverbed.

G | 360 words
✍️ archiveofourown.org/works/93224371
#ffxivwrite #ffxiv #myfic

A leaf was bobbing lazily on the gentle current as Nayra sat in one of the many pavilions built atop the lake of Fallgourd Float. It buoyed, in and out of the water and side to side, drifting away aimlessly where the river and the wind took it, past the settlement premises and onto the canal flanked by precipitous cliffs.

In her mind, Nayra followed the stream. She knew the Twelveswood by heart. Even after the Calamity tore the earth apart and altered the landscape of her childhood, she would not find herself lost among these trees.

24. Drift

The person* who once was Oshon meditates on the difference between wandering and drifting.

(*Deryk is genderfluid in my canon, and is referred to by multiple sets of pronouns)

Before she was Deryk, she was Oschon, and before that she could no longer recall who or what she had been. She had been the Wanderer for so long she had simply forgotten how to be anything else.

Her travels across the star had not really counted as true wandering for a very long time. To wander carried with it some degree of purpose, even if she did not have a specific destination she was trying to reach. It would have been more accurate to say that for the last however many decades she had merely drifted, pulled along by the currents of fate and by her simple inability to resist it. The people of the star venerated him as Oschon the Wanderer, and so he continued to put one foot in front of the other as long as their prayers continued to reach him.

#FFXIVWrite2026 #FFXIVWrite Day 26: Drift

A little glimpse into Calathea's life before the events of MSQ. Unfinished, but I like this one. It has promise.

#HeartlessFics

The sun had only risen less than an hour ago upon the great city of Limsa Lominsa, but the market was already bustling with activity. A new Hannish trading ship had docked yesterday afternoon, one that had not been seen in the city before. It was all the people could talk about. Speculations ran amok across the people's lips: would the ship be bringing foodstuffs? Was it laden with gold and precious gems? The weavers were already abuzz with speculation on what fashion trends were currently sweeping across the city of Radz-at-Hahn, and of what designs they could incorporate into their own.

And, now that the deck was no longer swarming with customs officers, the goods began flooding the market stalls with spices and silks, with fruits and fripperies intended to entice even the most frugal of shoppers. Exotic meats sizzled on spits. Jewelry twinkled on their stands. Brilliantly colored fabrics draped across tables. The air was filled with the sounds of merchants advertising their wares and customers haggling for better prices. There were a handful of negotiations that almost turned ugly, but they always fizzled out before punches were thrown. Some kind soul would always step in and whisper a few words, and fiery tempers would be doused as the impromptu mediator slipped back into the shadows.
One such mediator drifted through the crowd, smiling and listening to the promises made with silvered tongues and the vilest of curses spat out through clenched teeth. Her golden hair shone in the morning light as she surveyed the people making their purchases for the day. Street urchins darted around like little minnows, looking for ways to earn enough coin for today's meal. Some carried boxes, others unloaded goods, and a small, daring handful loitered in the shadows, waiting for unlucky passersby. A few of them nodded in acknowledgement as she bought a croissant from her favorite baker, and she gave them a quick wink before melting back into the current of people.

She tore off pieces of her pastry and popped them in her mouth as she continued to make her rounds. The Sisters of Edelweiss always had at least one person present in the marketplace at all times, and today, that duty fell to her. But Calathea DuMarr never saw it as a chore. It was always an opportunity, a window into other people's lives. It was a chance to learn a little bit more about the world around her, to be a part of something bigger than the life she had.

A chance to belong, if only for a couple of hours.

Suddenly, something bumped into Calathea's side. Like lightning, her hand shot out and closed around the wrist of the filthy child who had run into her. In his hand was a gil piece. Her gil piece, most likely.
Cal’s grin widened. Well well well, she thought. It seems that this little minnow has greater aspirations than the rest of his school. It's a shame he chose to mess with the sharks.

“And where the fuck d’ye think you're going with me money, ye little scamp?” she asked, with her smile full of teeth and terror.

The boy twisted in her grasp, trying to pull himself free. “I en’t do nuffin. Lemme go!”

But she only chuckled as she plucked the coin out of his hands. “Not before I get my gil back. An’ not before I have yer name, boyo.”

“I en't telling ye shite. Now lemme go, ye bitch!”

The boy’s shout was loud, loud enough to catch the attention of a couple that was perusing the stall nearby. Loud enough to draw the attention of a Yellowjacket twenty yalms away. The roegadyn’s head snapped up, and her eyes locked onto Calathea’s. She swore under her breath. “Time to move out,” she said, “unless ye'd rather take yer chances with our Friends in Yellow?” She jerked her head towards the Yellowjacket watching them. The boy’s eyes grew wide in fear, and he shook his head. “That's what I thought.” And she dragged him away from the market.

They made their way through a maze of alleys, her hand a vise around his scrawny forearm, turning this way and that way, until Calathea felt confident that they weren't being followed. She let out a sigh of relief, and then she knelt down in front of her little thief.
“You alright?” she asked.

(Remaining plot to iron out: kid gets tight-lipped, Cal explains who she is and that she's with the Rogue's Guild. Also explains that she's the one who's been taking care of some of the orphans. That “guardian angel” the other urchins talk about. She gives him money for food, tells him to come back in a couple of days and that she may have some honest work for him. Kid accepts. Cal makes her way back to the market, and leans against the wall. Next to a man with brown hair, twin knives strapped to his sides. Jacke. He stepped in when Cal left. Teases her about it, about her soft heart. “Still a softie after all these years, eh, Songbird?’ Cal tells him that she can't help it. “You know I can't, Jacke.” “I know, I know. You've never been one to abandon a cove down on their luck.”)
