#ffxivwrite2026 Day 15: Prodigy
In which Kasia begins to question who she is after her encounter with Gaius.

Kasia’s hands stuttered amid fixing a stolen magitek armor under the shadows of Revenant’s Toll. Despite the shades shielding them from most of the sun’s glare, today felt especially hot, and Kasia’s undershirt was already sticking to her back with sweat. Yet a chill was creeping up the edges of her skin as she recalled her encounter with the Legatus of the XIVth Imperial Legion.

A few days had passed since the Howling Eye, and Gaius’s words refused to leave her mind. There had been no doubt the Legatus had been talking to her. She’d noted the slight shift of his attention, a turning of his black, horned helmet as his impassive eyes bored into her. “And what, pray tell, is the Emperor’s prodigy doing with Eorzean rabble?” he’d said, his deep, baritone voice masked through his skull-like helmet.

#ffxivwrite2026 Day 30: Vestige
In the Fourth Reflection, Nayra meets someone who is the spitting image of her sister. (7.56 spoilers)

T | 804 words

The moment Nayra spotted Visna on the ship, she immediately knew who the girl was supposed to be. Bubbly and bright, with tufts of fluffy pink hair adorning her head and a mischievous grin parting her lips, Nayra didn’t need Emet-Selch’s soul-seeing ability to know Visna was a shard of her sister’s soul.

After Visna sent them to inspect the island and help set up fire stones, Nayra would occasionally find her gaze drift toward the little girl at the center of the island working on some sort of contraption along with her Elezen companion. Nayra had never let herself dwell on it. Sensing her sister’s presence, along with her parents’, at Aitiascope had been more than she had hoped for. To know that they had left peacefully with not a shred of blame toward her… Nayra had lingered outside Ragnarok’s hangar for a time, if only to recall the warmth which had enveloped her hand and pushed her back and carve it into memory.

#ffxivwrite2026 Day 29: Layer
Prior to the Scions' departure to Garlemald, Sorcha gifts Nayra a scarf to help ward off the cold.

Sorcha glanced over her shoulder to see Nayra spreading her arms wide before the tall mirror, head tilted to the side as she waited for Sorcha’s verdict on her newest gear: a thick, fur-lined cream coat, complete with its matching pair of gloves and earmuffs. Cute, Sorcha couldn’t help but think, and the color suited Nayra well. From what she had heard from Thancred earlier, Tataru seemed to have put their tastes and preferences into mind when she had prepared the coats. But Nayra’s neck was still somewhat bare. Sorcha returned her attention to her task at hand until she found the thick scarf lodged deep in her drawer. She hooked her fingers around the pale brown fabric and pulled it out.

“You can’t stand the cold,” she said, moving to stand in front of Nayra. Then she wrapped the scarf around Nayra’s neck—one loop, then another, before draping each end of the scarf down her front and back.

#ffxivwrite2026 Day 28: On Thin Ice
In which Kasia and Nayra trek through slippery ice in Garlemald.

“Careful! It’s slippery.”

At Cerulea Ingens, Kasia’s belated warning failed to stop Nayra from losing her footing on the thin layer of ice. She slipped and fell with a resounding oof, her bum aching and shoulders smarting to the seventh hell and back. Kasia rushed toward her, her snow boots finding purchase each step of the way.

She reached toward Nayra and helped her get back up. “You okay?”

“I didn’t hit my head this time, so that’s something.”

Kasia snorted. “You’d think after all those treks through snowy Coerthas, you’d have a better grasp on where to place your foot on the ice.”

#ffxivwrite2026 Day 14 : Against the Grain
Azem has never been a stickler to Amaurot's strict rules.

Under an auspicious moon, Leirion crouched before a small mound and placed a single white lily atop the ground. Quite the peculiar tradition, she herself had to concur. To respect the deceased by way of a flower offering. ‘Death’ to her people was not an unfamiliar concept, but rather than treating it as a monumental event warranting festivities, by the end of their lifespan, they would simply return to the aetherial sea and have their souls decomposed.

Yet the most curious thing occurred the last time she visited Elpis. It appeared an errant familiar of hers had taken to stroll around the verdant facility while she had been away on an assignment abroad. She’d recalled creating no such humanoid familiar, with fluffy rosy hair and heterochromatic eyes complete with all the feline features she had, admittedly, been quite taken with in the past couple centuries. And yet all the researchers who had greeted her had extolled what a fine specimen she had created, they just had to have the concept for themselves. Intelligent, sentient, capable of performing tasks independent of their masters. Indeed, upon hearing it, Leirion herself would want to have such a familiar as her assistant. It would certainly make all her neglected office works much less bothersome.

#ffxivwrite2026 Day 25 : Cynosure
Sorcha once lost one Warrior of Light. She would not lose another.

The Warrior of Light. A tiny pang squeezed Sorcha’s chest as she quietly brewed yet more painkiller concoctions. How familiar was the moniker to her, except the visage that rose in her mind lacked the soft rosy locks and red-tipped tail which usually accompanied depictions of the people’s current hero. The warrior Sorcha knew had not a remarkable, nor memorable, face. His chestnut-brown hair was common among Gridanians; the bright blue of his eyes reflected the deep sky far out in the horizon; and the ever-present stubble adorning his jawline would often bristle against her own chin every time they shared stolen kisses in-between missions. The first time Sorcha met him had been in their teen years when he’d been but a new adventurer out on an errand or two outside of Hyrstmill. Fast-forward nine years later, he’d bedecked her finger with a pretty ring with the promise to spend a lifetime together.

#ffxivwrite2026 Day 12: Fusion
In which Alisaie and G'raha try out the neotaco now sold at Aunt Tii's taco stand (DT spoilers).

“What in the seventh hell is this?” Lounging in the seats outside Aunt Tii’s taco stand, Alisaie stared with barely concealed shock and bafflement at the… neotaco that now graced her plate. No more was the spilling sauce or sizzling meat or delectably spiced leafy vegetables. In its place was a thin piece of bread wrapped around some kind of paste.

Across her table, G’raha dug into his not-quite taco with as much fervor as he had when he first tasted the dish, though it wasn’t long before the grin on his face dissipated into a rather bemused, half pondering grimace.

“Hm, I’d heard Aunt Tii was expanding her business to Solution Nine but…” He swallowed, then scrutinized the meal like he would an ancient tome. “‘Tis a bit odd, like it’s missing texture.”

#ffxivwrite2026 Day 24: Drift
In which Nayra's mind drifts away like a leaf upon the riverbed.

G | 360 words

#ffxivwrite #ffxiv #myfic

A leaf was bobbing lazily on the gentle current as Nayra sat in one of the many pavilions built atop the lake of Fallgourd Float. It buoyed, in and out of the water and side to side, drifting away aimlessly where the river and the wind took it, past the settlement premises and onto the canal flanked by precipitous cliffs.

In her mind, Nayra followed the stream. She knew the Twelveswood by heart. Even after the Calamity tore the earth apart and altered the landscape of her childhood, she would not find herself lost among these trees.

#ffxivwrite2026 Day 10: Upbraiding
In which Severian, once again, reprimanded his alchemists

The sun hadn’t reached its peak and Severian Lyctor was already berating their newest recruit at his desk for simply turning the heat too high when distilling water. And now the unpurified libation remained impure and, as their esteemed guildmaster said it, “would rather poison their imbiber rather than grant its desired effect.” One would think a guildmaster would treat their freshly-recruited member with grace, but no, not Severian. Whether they’d joined scarcely three bells ago or three moons ago made no difference. Fail to meet his expectations and they’d be cut from the roster.
