Aside from my native language of English and the other languages I know, I would imagine a world where everyone speaks pashto. People in this world would often mean one thing here and mean the complete opposite (to our real world), almost like opposite day. Some holidays #hwa4 #lostandremade

It’s been so long, I remember reading about Homi Bhabha’s third space in school and never thought I would come across it again in college. I agree with his statement as when cultures meet is not a perfect mix it is actually a unequal mix of things which makes the final product intresting.

And then I asked it to give me more detailed and deeper questions, but instead it was asking couple of questions using commas. It understood my request but there was no reasoning behind it. I’d did what I asked for, but it did think “oh like why is he asking me for that” #hwa4 #understandingeffect

I asked my ai to ask me one question instead of 100 at once, and it responded with “You're right, and I'll keep it to one question at a time from here.” It cut down on the questions, but instead of asking me a deep question it asked “when was your dad born“ #hwa4 #understandingeffect

The example of children being beaten for speaking their mother tongue in missionary schools shows how colonization caused the children to lose a part of their culture and identity. This then benefitted the colonizers by making their language and culture the dominant one. #hwa4 #translationasviolence

This was one of my favorite relationships. "Ceremonies aspire towards the formless" especially conveys the emotion behind the original sentence. #hwa4 #yingelishiparty

recently I hate how academic papers don’t allow you to speculate or question the data, or a belief. I like to have fun, make points that seem out of place, think about things that may not have been researched. that’s why I like SME’s they help me break this barrier #hwa4 #genrepressure

that the indigenous held and the benefit would be for the people implementing the translational changes. I think this is definitely a form of domination, by definition itself, as we now understand how translation was implemented as a tool for belief system change. #hwa4 #translationasviolence

It gives a confident response without providing much reasoning behind it. This makes it seem like GPT understands the creative choice even though it hasn't really shown that understanding. #hwa4 #understandingeffect

#hwa4 #yingelishiparty i wonder how much of this makes sense in Chinese, or does it just sound like nonsensical sayings strung together

Ontological slippage is when categories blur, it’s like when something is starting to act like something else. I like to think about Ai when trying to explain it! When Ai makes mistakes or drifts and we can push back on it. #hwa4 #wherethingsslip

One example you mentioned was the intentional translation of Christian doctrines done by missionaries for indigenous people, as this was an attempt to "erase local spiritual systems." So in this historical example, the information lost would be the spiritual systems #hwa4 #translationasviolence

GPT says this, which seems like it understood, but reading it a second time in context, I realized it was nearly an exact restatement of my own words, rearranged. It was a performance of understanding, using my own words as a mask to cover the lack of original thought. #hwa4 #understandingeffect

In my future SMEs, I want to experiment with different ways of telling stories, like combining personal experiences, pictures, and music instead of only using traditional writing. #hwa4 #genrepressure

#hwa4 #yingelishiparty it feels like im listening to a lullaby at first, even if i try to focus on the fact that it is using phonemes, i can still mostly hear the english words being spoken

@chillmountaineer.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 1:14 AM

Relating this to more specifically translations, perhaps then we would rewrite information across languages in the same manner/style/demeanor. Even in the same language when taking notes, for example, our version of performative translation would be condensing information. #hwa4 #translationacts

I feel stuck in a pursuit of traditional academic excellence. I touched on this in SME1, where I discussed my expectations for myself and for the future. Maybe in my next SMEs I can explore changing my midnset and world view to break from this or at least alter it. #hwa4 #genrepressure

Schechner's twice-behaved behavior really comes into everyday performance in social norms and cognitive schemas. When we go outside and meet new people, we usually introduce ourselves in a particular format. We ask for each other's names and background in a formal manner #hwa4 #translationacts

Even if the translation has a small or large change in it's original meaning, that translation itself, essentially, creates an alternate reality of the original. #hwa4 #translationacts

@kneeuhh.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 1:10 AM

Berger and Luckmann's idea that reality itself is made through performance helps us understand that translation itself can warp reality. Translation is a performance because the translator intentionally picks and chooses what words or meanings to emphasize. #hwa4 #translationacts
