1. Groffman says that we are always preforming and this applies to translation because as it said in #hwa4 , we use translation as a way to twist things around to what we like and get rid of things we think are unnecessary #translationacts

Berger and Luckmann argument apples to Yingleshi being a performance. It creates a new reality bias to the listener's interpretation #hwa4 #translationacts

Translators would also have to consider the audience that receive the texts, they have to be very careful with the potential influence. Cuz translation is always political, it has to be performative in certain way no matter it’s protection of a country or oneself. #hwa4 #translationacts

Goffman says we are always performing and I agree with that. Translation is a type of performance because it has to consider different factors such as who’s in power, what the situation is like, the certain time period etc. #hwa4 #translationacts

Goffman's idea that we present ourselves depending on audience, works well in explaining how translation is a performance.

Translators make choices about what if emphasized or left out.

That means two translations of the same text give two audiences different impressions.

Goffman says that we are always performing because context, audience etc influence our behavior, and that’s how translation works too. people use translation in a way to fit their needs, show what they mean. they can erase or highlight different meanings with translation #hwa4 #translationacts

In part one, Peter Berger and Thomas Luckmann argue that reality itself is made through performance. Translation works this way, as seen with the Bible, changing the story entirely, shaping how an audience understands it on a general scale in reality. #hwa4 #translationacts

@mischa17.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 1:23 AM

One example could be how the Bible has been interpreted, many ways and phrases, and it comes back each time differently than the original one

Meaning translation is a performance because the translator is allowed to assign importance to whatever they choose. "History is written by the winners". #hwa4 #translationacts

@askully.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 10:32 PM

Berger and Luckmann argue that reality is built through repeated performance. Translation works the same way because translators decide what gets emphasized, changed, or left out of the story, and these choices can shape how an audience understands the reality. #hwa4 #translationacts

@butterflies49.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 8:26 PM

Richard Schechner ideas help us understand that translation is a performance by telling us that repeated actions are a performance. For example a handshake is a repeated action that has be shown to us when we greet a person for the first time and it is a repeated action. #hwa4 #translationacts

@bakedbyjuj.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 7:30 PM

Schechner talks about how performance isn't spontaneous and that is exactly what translation is. It is the cultural biases and language limitations being performed with every translated word and every choice that is made when a direct translation doesn't apply #hwa4 #translationacts

@ryanl26.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 3:17 PM

Goffman believes that we are always performing every time we act based on audience and situation. When applied to translation here, I think this means that translation isn't simply just words, but also when a translator shapes their presentation to control their audience.

#hwa4 #translationacts Beger and Luckman say that translation is a performance. People through history say that the winners write history. Its a way to introduce pride, feelings of victory, and status into what will be shared throughout the world.

@pickleball07.bsky.socialOct 6, 2026, 5:45 PM

1. Schechner's idea of "twice-behaved behavior" relates translation to performance because he shows us how actions that we do are drawn from outside influences or other cultures, but we are the ones who decide the meaning of what we do, which ties it back to translation #hwa4 #translationacts

@elijahawad.bsky.socialOct 6, 2026, 4:09 PM

I would choose Goffman because he talks about how we are always performing and this shows how translation is performance because we translate the words into what we want them to mean and apply meaning to them through the way we perform them. #hwa4 #translationacts

@maddyc15.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 11:25 PM

#hwa4 #translationacts Berger and Luckmann's idea that reality forms through performance, the idea of religion only feel real cause we act as they are connects to the idea of translatation as performance, specifically with the example of translating the Bible; there is a change in reality after that

@gracetawfik.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 6:59 PM

I would choose Goffman because he says we're always performing, just like translators. They use their bodies and movement to help their listeners understand them better. They aren't using the original words exactly, but getting the point across in an understandable way. #hwa4 #translationacts

@stevenp35.bsky.socialOct 3, 2026, 7:33 PM

I would chose Goffman because he says we're always performing, and translators do too. They manage impressions by choosing what to emphasize or alter for their audience. A translation isn't a neutral copy. It's a performance of the original. #hwa4 #translationacts
