First in flight
an #airplane
on my license plate
it seems that
no one has ever
looked at the plans
of Da Vinci
or the ancient
Chinese scholars

In altitude
In air speed
it matched them tit for tat
then darted off far too fast

"Well that's enough of that!"

The pilot flipped the flaps
to bring the #airplane down
telling no one what he saw
once back on the ground.

Airplane overhead,
Just a wish for the walking
Dead, dreams in rubble.

finding the secrets of life
in silence

inspired by strange lights
growing brighter and younger
she maps new heavens

in her heart
each star is
exceptional

Morning mist lifts
revealing the summit
an adroit monk finding
a narrow passage amid ridges,
higher up
exceptional alpinists traverse
volatile avalanches & crevasses
inspiring aspiring climbers
sundial marks their turning point

If you asked me when I was a child what I wanted to be, my answer—if I trusted you enough to be honest (and it's unlikely that I would've done)—would be the opposite of #exceptional.

I wanted to be normal. What a loaded word for such an ordinary state.

Tainted blueberries cling
to the messy woody shrubs,
waxwings and thrushes migrate
navigating hidden crossings,
an empty bird feeder longing
for fledglings’ naivety,
evoking autumnal melancholy.

For someone her age she has an #exceptional amount of #naivete. She says her husband took care of everything and now that he’s gone she doesn’t know what to do. We need to help her.
Yes, we do. Let’s start with her bills.
Agreed. That’s a good place to start.

EC stands for
#exceptional children
for they can do more
than anyone expects
in so many surprising
ways.

Mine may not
speak in words
but their smiles
when they complete
as task for the first time
is all worth it.

Today’s Friday September 11th prompt comes from a small card I found yesterday. #exceptional #thingstowriteabout

#Diamonds are old. Billions of years old. The oldest woman in the world wearing diamonds is the newly-laid egg of a dung beetle rolling down an ancient pyramid.

Carbon-based life-forms
wearing shiny carbon
from the bowels of the earth.
