In 1946, at the first Cannes Film Festival, #TheLostWeekend shared the Grand Prix with Brief Encounter, making it one of only four films – the others being Marty (1955), Parasite (2019) and Anora (2024) – to win both the Oscar for Best Picture and the highest prize at Cannes. #TheNoirCollective

#TheLostWeekend was voted Best Picture by the New York Film Critics Circle and the National Board of Review, and won Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Screenplay and Best Direction. The film was also nominated for Cinematography, Film Editing, and Best Music Score. #TheNoirCollective

#TheLostWeekend opened to universal acclaim. Although the novel was initially considered inappropriate for the screen, the film was hailed as “a miracle of inspired film craftsmanship" (NY Telegram) and “the most daring film that ever came out of Hollywood" (NY Daily News). #TheNoirCollective

"The Rembrandt principle" is brilliant coinage. I've never heard it before, and I totally get how The Four Horsemen brought it into prominence.
