My linocut print of mathematician & astronomer Nicole-Reine Lepaute (1723-1788) in a vertical gradient (bottom to top) of bright pink to lavender on white paper. She wears a wig and gown and the portrait is from the chest to head. Her 12 diagrams of the phases of the annular the solar eclipse of 1764 as viewed from Paris appear across her shoulders. Behind her head in green is her map of the path of the eclipse across Europe.

14. Crescent. A columbia silk moth - Saturniinae.

Oh yes loads easier than wing Sarah you idiot. I was going to do a side view for ease but I didn't enjoy looking at it's creepy little tarantula legs.
Entomologists don't look too closely.

Painting this led me down the rabbit hole of argyle, which this is not, but it told me it really wants to be. #sciartseptember

Origami diamond for today's #SciArtSeptember prompt.

Pen and colored pencil drawing of purple origami paper folded into a simple diamond shape. This is an early step in the process of folding many different items.

Day 13 #SciArtSeptember: diamond. This #SciArt #embroidery, push, pull, & tingle (2018) features a diamond shape to show the tension in my paresthesiac hands.

An embroidery on deep purple linen. There is a purple outline of a feminine right hand from the side, palm up, fingers curled slightly inward. There are many tiny white French knots covering the fingertips and light blue, gold, and navy French knots on parts of the palm. There are fine filigree lines connecting many of the French knots and white strands of thread strung from each fingertip to an apex above the hand. There is a starburst floating above the palm in white and light blue.

Another #SundayFishSketch #SciArtSeptember crossover! Diamondfish is just one of this guy’s common names, but it definitely suits him!

Colored pencil and ink drawing of a diamondfish, one of several common names for this cutie. It’s unsurprisingly roughly diamond shaped with two black stripes on the eye and pectoral fin against a silver body color. The dorsal and causal fins are bright yellow.

For the Day 13 diamond shape prompt of #SciArtSeptember I am sharing Marjorie Rice (née Jeuck, 1923–2017) who discovered 4 new pentagonal tilings of the Euclidian plane! 👩🏼‍🔬🧮🧪 #histsci

The San Diego mother of 5 (6th died in infancy) completed half a correspondence art course after high school & had

My linocut portrait of Marjorie Rice with 4 groupings of her 4 pentagonal tiling patterns in pale orange, pink, purple and lime. Her shirt is a pattern of orange butterflies and white daisies on a dark green background. The pattern is based on the orange pentagonal tiling. She is shown in green with a background of yellow at her neckline to lime going up with lines and details overprinted in dark green. She is smiling at the viewer.
