Blame
what was the tremor,
rumble,
that something was
amiss;
when did cooed words
turn barbs,
silences, replace
goodbye kiss;

what was the moment,
second,
that one of us
knew;
when did you see
hate,
I anticipate
anger’s cue;

was it the bottle,
hand,
mouth,
pain;
it matters not,
ending is the
same

Beautiful Fault Lines

Beautiful fractures, bleeding right here.
Mac warded Blue when he tainted me good,
He was my old vice, my daily good mood
Easy to talk to out of solitude.

What would I be like without fear?
Trampled like leaves from fall last year...
Then two months later my voice became hoarse,
Dragged to the ground till I'm watching Ryan's cold hearse.

Beautiful fault lines, I'm here, I remained.
I thought I would never see me again.
Be me again.

My beautiful fractures, yet here I remain
I thought I would not survive last year..
My beautiful fractures.

Here's a fairly literal response to today's #PoemsAbout #Faultlines but it fits in with recent attempts to write about our local Jurassic Coast.
Many thanks @alanparrywriter.co.uk @thebrokenspine.co.uk

The group mind diverged
Along long-standing fault lines -
A conflict, renewed.

@throwawayreg.bsky.social - live and very dangerous (or is that endangered?) at Survivors' Poetry Zoom Party Tuesday 22 September, as featured poet alongside #PoemsAbout maestro-magician @alanparrywriter.co.uk: an evening not to be missed, lest dreadful retribution threaten, from the sound of this!🥰

It's Friday and in the North, enjoying a few days with family in Edinburgh. Here's my contribution to #PoemsAbout #FaultLines. Thank you to @alanparrywriter.co.uk @thebrokenspine.co.uk I'll read later after childcare duties!

Under Pressure

It started then,
A tiny line, a rift,
Hairline fracture,
Imprint of a head
Colliding with the hawthorn tree,
A coming of age they said,

Bruised and battered,
Thorns and stitches,
An audible crack,
Broken skull,
What a mistake I made
Tying myself to you,

That hairline craze,
The first fault line
Fragmenting, shattering
A promise doomed as it fell
Into a cataclysmic canyon,
Of lies and smiles.

#poemsabout #FaultLines
Fault lines with a political bent…can’t seem to help myself. 😬

    Fault Lines

It’s not   his fault,
he              proclaims;
it’s         Biden’s fault,
Hilary’s      fault, and
Obama’s     fault;
Canada       and Mexico?
it’s their         fault too
you don’t    like war,
high                 gas
and grocery     prices?
that’s Iran’s      fault;
Democracy      is cracking,
crumbling               and slipping
towards              fascism;
freedom       lies on an
unstable          fault line;
fractures                  widening
with  each              lie,
dirty               deed
and                 cover up;
we are on        the precipice
of a            disaster;
we must                build an
authoritarian      proof shelter
on solid         ground
to rescue       us from
this             disastrous
MAGA    cult
fault line

They said to plant Aconite to bloom in Autumn.

No one told me - not even the gardener - that one touch could kill
(the bees are wary)

So were I to find a dead blackbird
(or some other spring memory ) on the ground beneath

Would it be my fault?

Before the divorce we ate canapés

this must be your muse
the artist asked me
sparkling wine in hand
as we small talked
the gallery opening

no, I said
this is my wife
have you met?

Insomnia
An appalling crack of light
Pours into my room,
Picking up in its cast
Specks, spiralling
Across this place
Where I can no
Longer find peace.
A little universe from hell.
It seems to draw me
Away from familiar
Weather, the arcadia of my life,
She, who rises and falls
Beside me in sleep.
I  beached, marooned
By the baying rabble in
The courtroom of my head,
Cursing the crushed velvet, moth
Book marking a fold in the curtain,
For its good fortune, in being dead.

And this morning I have given myself the earworm of 'Your Fault' from Into the Woods. Which is great, but even so.
#PoemsAbout #FaultLines

my fault

clearly things had gone pear-shaped
it was another failure
another inquest would begin
another post-mortem
concluding that there had been
no indication

but i would pass my driving test eventually

Shifting plates, shifting times
Changes following fault lines
And reinvention's catalysed
As from beneath, volcanoes rise.
Pockmarked face, ruptured skin,
The oozes seeping from within
Leave a landscape without hope
Subject to the pains of growth,
Magma's puss though, fades away,
Leaves fertile ground within its stay
Where forests of a thousand hairs
Are cultivated, with great care
To cover up the cracks and scars
That settled in across the years.
But time; as she is want, still moves
Those plates, and with them cracks and grooves
Paint chasms in a different place
Where forests can't erase their trace
New acts each day on seismic stage,
And tremors just increase with age.

Haven't dabbled in #PoemsAbout with @thebrokenspine.co.uk for ages. Here's a little 'un for today's #FaultLines with thanks to @alanparrywriter.co.uk

Reaching for the faultmeter
was the easy part. More tricky
was locating the positive
and negative terminals
of our disagreement

Another week is over and another #PoemsAbout day is upon us.

I've had a doozy of a week, but I made it. Here's to everyone else that did 👏

Now let's share some cool poetry 🩶🩶🩶

Fault Line

I didn’t grow up with monsters.
I grew up with people
who were carrying so much
they dropped pieces of themselves.

I feel the weight
of the swallowed anger.
The pressure
of choices not made.
A stone,
an heirloom,
sitting on my chest.

I want to blame them.
I do.
I want to point
and say you did this to me.
But I won't.

Instead I sit with the truth:
they shared what they had.
Now do the cracks end here
or keep traveling?

Might use some of this one in my novel-in-progress - title 'Light Switch' - which is very much about #Faultlines

NEXT LIFE
by Clare O'Brien

The asphalt scabs are crumbling,
their planes acutely angled,
potholes erupting stones.

Tarmac prairies once allowed
the smooth running of machines,
whose long reign is at an end.

Wild emeralds emerge from cracks,
throbbing with moisture.  Wet life
reasserts, ebbing the tide of tar.

Rain falls like a blessing
on the tiny forests, oozing moss,
copses and bogs reaffirmed.

We beat our wings and howl,
take to the sun bright air,
swim the deepening green.
