His fault lines, ran deeper than,
blood in his veins, marrow in his bone
convinced of his own fiction
writhe in your prison
adorn your own torture.

When #FaultLines correspondent #NatashaDelToro asked US Representative #BrandonGill about the deaths, he refused to answer.

“Al Jazeera? You guys can get lost,” replied the #Republicän from #Texas.

Canon Perpetuus
How do you know there is a song
and how the song goes?
Because you too have lain in your childhood bed
and held your hand up in front of your eyes
and turned it side to side. Spread your fingers,
found a fist, a claw, a wing, and watched
the strings in your wrist pull tight. Loosen.
You lay awake at night and wondered about your toes,
their distance, and chubbiness. And when you realized
people died, you ran to your mother and cried,
not us, not us. And your mother pulled you close
and kissed your head, said, Yes, us, thank God.
You have your time, you're molded clay.
The song has turned you out this way.
Not even the quark wants to sing alone. It wants to be
something greater than itself. It takes the hand
of another, until there are great wheels of galaxies,
singing the song, and wondering what and why
and how, and where are we going for eons and eons,
until it finds its answer, and all the quarks fly
so far apart, the longing and asking begins again.

Travelling at the moment so a bit quiet on here but here’s a #PoemsAbout from Hong Kong on the #FaultLines of language (I thought my Cantonese wasn’t bad. How wrong I was!) Thanks @alanparrywriter.co.uk
@thebrokenspine.co.uk

Tone Deaf
The trouble starts in the lift
I smile at the attendant and offer
what I believe to be a courteous phrase.
He stares at me.
Then at the floor.
Then back at me, suddenly red-faced, as though I have asked something far too intimate for the third floor.
Later,
in a shop, I try once more.
Careful this time.
Warm.
Respectful.
Then a gardener.
A smile.
A nod.
Another carefully prepared phrase.
He stops watering.
Looks at me.
Looks away.
Apparently
I have said something involving my anus.
By lunchtime
I have embarrassed a lift attendant, delighted
two shop assistants, disturbed a gardener, and learned that goodwill, poorly pronounced, can travel
a very long way from its point of departure.
The assistant pauses, then bursts out laughing.
Calls her colleague.
I repeat myself.
They are both gone now, bent over the counter,
helpless.
I stand there with the expression of a man who has merely wished to be pleasant.

For this week's #PoemsAbout #FaultLines i'm thinking about a poem i read once in 2004. Thanks for reading, even though I am posting late again this week!

September 2026 / September 2004

there's nothing i hate more
than sitting in the dark
with the sound of your voice
ringing in my head.

i try to write you a letter.

it feels like that Collins poem
coming out of my mouth.

the one-ton bell.
the weight of the tongue.
the ring.

instead
i write a haiku
about a guy i know
who can never quite find
his apartment after dark:

people tell stories
robert drunk and wandering
not saying we too are lost from home

you were there.
i was here.

or maybe
i have that backwards.

my mother would know
whose fault it was
if i knew how to reach her

you

here alone

in the dark

The cracks are everywhere.
Here is a #poem..

Fault

The ground cracked
And everyone just stepped
Over it

A little wider
Day by day

The ground split
And everyone just went
Around

A little further
Day by day

The ground cracked and split
And everyone just found
Another way to go

A little deeper
Day by day

The ground disappeared
And everyone just blinked
And blamed someone else

Fault Lines
By Dawn Mclachlan

In silvered tracks on papery skin the past walked
carrying all that went before defining
describing
the way the world worked
back then
before time began
before the Flight
But decades later
in startled moments
the vertigo of Fault Lines
still cracked like ice

Blame
what was the tremor,
rumble,
that something was
amiss;
when did cooed words
turn barbs,
silences, replace
goodbye kiss;

what was the moment,
second,
that one of us
knew;
when did you see
hate,
I anticipate
anger’s cue;

was it the bottle,
hand,
mouth,
pain;
it matters not,
ending is the
same

It's Friday and in the North, enjoying a few days with family in Edinburgh. Here's my contribution to #PoemsAbout #FaultLines. Thank you to @alanparrywriter.co.uk @thebrokenspine.co.uk I'll read later after childcare duties!

Under Pressure

It started then,
A tiny line, a rift,
Hairline fracture,
Imprint of a head
Colliding with the hawthorn tree,
A coming of age they said,

Bruised and battered,
Thorns and stitches,
An audible crack,
Broken skull,
What a mistake I made
Tying myself to you,

That hairline craze,
The first fault line
Fragmenting, shattering
A promise doomed as it fell
Into a cataclysmic canyon,
Of lies and smiles.

#poemsabout #FaultLines
Fault lines with a political bent…can’t seem to help myself. 😬

    Fault Lines

It’s not   his fault,
he              proclaims;
it’s         Biden’s fault,
Hilary’s      fault, and
Obama’s     fault;
Canada       and Mexico?
it’s their         fault too
you don’t    like war,
high                 gas
and grocery     prices?
that’s Iran’s      fault;
Democracy      is cracking,
crumbling               and slipping
towards              fascism;
freedom       lies on an
unstable          fault line;
fractures                  widening
with  each              lie,
dirty               deed
and                 cover up;
we are on        the precipice
of a            disaster;
we must                build an
authoritarian      proof shelter
on solid         ground
to rescue       us from
this             disastrous
MAGA    cult
fault line

They said to plant Aconite to bloom in Autumn.

No one told me - not even the gardener - that one touch could kill
(the bees are wary)

So were I to find a dead blackbird
(or some other spring memory ) on the ground beneath

Would it be my fault?

Before the divorce we ate canapés

this must be your muse
the artist asked me
sparkling wine in hand
as we small talked
the gallery opening

no, I said
this is my wife
have you met?

Insomnia
An appalling crack of light
Pours into my room,
Picking up in its cast
Specks, spiralling
Across this place
Where I can no
Longer find peace.
A little universe from hell.
It seems to draw me
Away from familiar
Weather, the arcadia of my life,
She, who rises and falls
Beside me in sleep.
I  beached, marooned
By the baying rabble in
The courtroom of my head,
Cursing the crushed velvet, moth
Book marking a fold in the curtain,
For its good fortune, in being dead.
