Hiding the booze out the window. Very smart. 🤓

Ohhhh hello Ray Milland. ❤️

Jane Wyman as Helen

Decades before battling Richard Channing for control of Falcon Crest, Wyman nabbed Oscar nods for The Yearling, Johnny Belinda (win), The Blue Veil, and Magnificent Obsession. As with Terry, #TheLostWeekend was her big break, but she parlayed it into stardom. #TheNoirCollective

The slow, 180 degree pan of the opening shot establishes the circular motif that occurs throughout #TheLostWeekend. Note the references to circles throughout the film; we’ll have a special Circle Checklist at film’s end! #TheNoirCollective

Phillip Terry as Wick

After years of B movies, #TheLostWeekend – filmed midway through his 4-year marriage to Joan Crawford – was his “big break,” and indeed, good roles soon followed: in Brackett’s ‘To Each His Own’ and in ‘Born to Kill.’ But by 1947 his film career had fizzled. #TheNoirCollective

I haven't watched this in a while. Ray Miland is excellent

A couple of minutes late, but here I am, ready for #TheLostWeekend

Brackett was billed above Wilder, no less.

A bottle of rye hanging on a cord; a man hanging by a thread.

Brackett had an ear for dialogue; Wilder, a gift for plotting. In #TheLostWeekend, Brackett ensures that even his most poetic flights of fancy still serve to heighten Wilder’s distinctive sense of doom. Watch & marvel. #TheNoirCollective

wow, very cool to learn all this, thank you so much!!

Reminds me of the Greek roots of the word photo-graphy--"writing/designing with light (photos)."

#TheLostWeekend was the ninth screenplay (of 14) by Charles Brackett and Billy Wilder. Because Wilder’s fame has eclipsed Brackett’s – and because Wilder in later years sought to obscure Brackett’s contributions – Brackett is too often overlooked. We won’t overlook him tonight. 😊 #TheNoirCollective

This is one of my favorite Miklós Rózsa scores for noir. His use of the theremin is really effective to represent that thirst... (different than how he used it in Spellbound - supposedly Hitchcock was irritated that he used it again)
