A smiling grey raptor bean with amber eyes, a streak of pink on their coat, a white chest as well as a white star on their forehead because I gave them too much brain and the space looked empty.

After a day of deliberation, I gotta interrupt the comic to bring you #inktober day 1, Gastornis, a terror bird relative who enjoyed fruit rather than flesh.

#paleoart #paleosky #oc #ocsky #dinosaur #dinosaurart #gijinka

Gastornis
Gastoni
Gaston’s Bird

Despite what many people think, Gastornis was not a terror bird, although closely related. Terror birds are commonly understood as Phorusrachidae, which Gastornis is not a part of. It lived several million years before the first true terror bird, as most of them popped up in the neogene and recently have been found to possibly having lived until 25,000 years ago. Gastornis also is known for being a frugivore, eating fruits and seeds instead of small animals like its descendants would.

Gastoni's are actually surprisingly nice to run into. They aren't territorial, they won't chase you, they just want their fruits. They'll use their beaks to break branches they can reach and cause the fruit to drop, often then sitting down and enjoying their harvest. With the abundance of fruit, they aren't very defensive of it, though they do pack a mean kick and peck if you really do piss them off. Like all animals, they still should only be viewed from a distance... but I cannot lie, the occasional free fruit break when exploring is VERY nice to have in an environment as unforgiving as these islands.

'The Beast's Bounty'
37 million autumns ago in Colorado, a young Megacerops is finally tall enough to taste some of the first fresh apples... ever! (Malus florissantensis) He joyfully collects them atop his basket-like head.

This is my #paleoart for Day 1 of #Inktober2026!
The prompt was 'Apple'.

Digital palaeoart of an extinct rhino-like mammal called Megacerops, which had a forked bony crest on its nose. He is happily picking bright yellow crabapples of the extinct species Malus florissantensis and using the shape of his head like a basket. I've used bold, ink-like outlines and a colouring style meant to mimic that of Copic markers.

When the principal jailbreaker forgets his equipment, those prisoners are in for a long wait (maybe longer than the initial sentence).
Meanwhile, the art of eating has been discovered.

alrighty, going for inktober dinosaurs

I think I can do it, (and I'll definitely do one a day and not do a make up cheat day if I need :V)

I also usually do a fun fact for each dino I draw, it will be in the replies

It's October finally and this year @djigr.bsky.social is defending her PhD (send her strength!)
There won't be #paleoctober this year so I made #prehistoctober!

The rule is pretty simple, each day a new prehistoric specie to draw!

Use the hashtag #prehistoctober2026
Good luck!

This picture was inspired by the traces of theropod leks (Ostendichnus) we have from the early Cretaceous. They were made by a small-to-mid-sized North American biped that may have made these scrapes as a mating thing.
