That sounds so perfect! #kidlitchat
Every once and a while one of my colleagues will send a kid or two to me to talk about writing and I eat it up. But I think I'd go right into teacher mode if I were to do a school visit. Plus I think I have the charisma of an avocado. #kidlitchat
I did something similar--an illustrator friend secured a grant for three of us to be artists in residence at a local elementary school. It was fun--we were presenting to the art classes, so I read my book, and then we did drawings based on the characters. #kidlitchat
I used to be at my kidsโ school quite often to help out, with intervention sessions and multiple other activities, but after the pandemic, they have far fewer opportunities and every visitor needs to go to the admin offices to get fingerprinted and a background check. #kidlitchat
I know. I can't remember ever having an author come and visit. #kidlitchat
I think, too, a lot of this depends on the age group of the presentation. I think many of us have talked with teachers/librarians rather than kids, so that's a totally different thing. But a good school visit with kids is magical #kidlitchat

When I was a kid, we never had an author visit. I wish we had. I didn't even realize authors were real people or that it was something I could do, even with teachers telling me I could someday. #kidlitchat
Okay, he's the thing about this, I'm a full-time high school English teacher....I kind of think I wouldn't be the best school visitor. I couldn't turn my teacher brain off! #kidlitchat
I did an "how to draw a ___ ... using basic shapes fat a school: 3 presentations (30 -45min each) geared for kindergartners 1st and 2nd graders, 3rd & 4th graders. My friend referred me & told me to write a proposal. I was terrified when they said YES. But it went well. #KidLitChat
Holy crap, I was so engrossed with my crossword, I forgot about #kidlitchat!
Two things : do you have a best or worst #authorvisit experience as a writer, teacher, librarian or kid? Also, I totally recommend @debbieohi.com 's #SchoolVisit "handbook" #kidlitchat
We're on a Discord, and there's a whole section for sharing short stories and chapters. It's a good place to get beta readers offline, too. Some folks ask for esoteric info/research sources or that idea-bouncing kind of thing. We also have a section where we pay our pet tax. #kidlitchat
I havenโt done any yet but Iโm brainstorming ways to make it interactive. As a music teacher I want to include music and instruments. #kidlitchat
One of my well-published MG friends spent months on a school visit tour. I asked recently if it helped with sales or anything. He said it didn't help much, and he would have lost money if his publisher hadn't supplied swag. But he had fun, for a while, despite the motels and fast food. #kidlitchat
It seems that at least our district is doing far fewer events in the last few years. ๐ #kidlitchat
I took almost as many other titles to give away, and as always, I took a bunch of candy. You want kids to engage and participate? Ask a question and toss a candy to whoever answers. They will ALL have something to say then. Another teacher said, this isn't her first rodeo. ๐ #kidlitchat
My most recent was for an ELA teacher bestie whose 7th-graders were about to begin Kansas History in Social Studies. I have a historical fiction book about Quantrill's Raid. I did a power point of cool facts, the school was nice to buy a bunch of the book, and we raffled them off. #kidlitchat
As a recovering classroom teacher, I love leaving my laptop for a classroom full of happy faces. Planning: I always think that I can recycle presentations and PowerPoints, but I always redo them #KidLitChat #AuthorVisits
Good evening, #kidlitchat
I did sort of a school visit yesterday, with a guest presentation in a writing class at one of the local universities. Not exactly the same thing, but I like when I get the chance to do that.
