Grief Feels Different This Month
Not sharper.
Deeper.
Like it settled into my
bones instead of my throat.
I carry it with more familiarity now.
It doesn’t knock me over.
It walks beside me.
That companionship is strange
but survivable.

lure (the brightness of snow)

can fool a bee into believing it’s spring
that crystal white solidity blinds the mind
and all five eyes, two compound,
three ocelli
to the freeze underneath,
what does it think, as it sinks into the freeze?
fear, regret?
or does it believe,
I made it through the maze, finally,
I made it, I'm dissolving into the sun,
back to where I came from,
and who knew, who could've guessed,
heaven would be so cold?
