This isn’t easy to do. A lot of actors end up judging a character like this and “playing at” him. You can’t judge a character “oh this guy’s just an asshole”. You have to find out why they act like that and justify it to your portrayal or else it just becomes a cartoon.

I know a lot of people on here don’t like Kirk Douglas, but I think he’s pretty great. I like how he doesn’t shy away from unlikable characters…he never winks at the audience.

If the character is despicable he leans all the way into it.
