Can I just...put the whole book here? The best part about having a horror novel lol.
A little too long to share the way I normally do, so have a screenshot from the text editor.

One last excerpt before The Colors That Haunt Us is out in the world.
Rosenfeld Manor has always wanted people to stay. Whether that means it loves them is another question entirely.

Queer history shapes Suzette’s story.
Her 1890s relationship survives through letters calling her lover a “dearest friend,” records naming her a “close companion,” and places where that woman’s name was erased.
The story is about uncovering what was hidden.
#AwesomeCharacters #TheColorsThatHaunt
Clara laughs often, but it’s usually dry, strained, or a pressure valve when things get too awful. Genuine laughter means she’s been caught off guard.
Suzette laughs less. When it’s real and unguarded, it usually means she feels safe.
ONE WEEK!!!
The Colors That Haunt Us comes out in seven days, which feels both completely impossible and somehow way too soon.
I’m excited. I’m overwhelmed. I keep looking at the calendar.

#WIPSnips #TheColorsThatHaunt No use of injury directly, but Clara is hurting and in pain, so close enough?
#AwesomeCharacters #TheColorsThatHaunt
Clara writes herself one quiet morning where the house behaves, the coffee is good, and she finishes a painting she actually likes.
Suzette writes herself an afternoon at the piano where she remembers every song, every name, and nothing hurts to recall.
The Colors That Haunt Us is almost here, and I’ve reached the strange part where there’s very little left to do except let people have it.
New on the blog: A Note Before Release
The Colors That Haunt Us is almost out in the world, and after spending so long with it as drafts, edits, notes, and files on my computer, people are about to actually hold it. Read it. Have opinions.
That part still feels wild.
#AwesomeCharacters #TheColorsThatHaunt
Clara thinks she sees herself clearly, but she’s better at spotting everyone else’s problems than admitting when grief is steering her.
Suzette knows her view of herself is distorted. Too much of her past is missing for her to trust who she remembers being.

Since I missed so many, here's a few:
Day 9: Band For The Story:
If I had to give The Colors That Haunt Us to one band, it would be The Amazing Devil.
Their mix of haunting folk, messy grief, desperate love, obsession, and beauty that always has something...
#QueerPrompts #TheColorsThatHaunt
Clara. Absolutely Clara.
She'd start with a legitimate complaint, get increasingly stubborn when no one listened, and somehow end up at, "Fine. Burn it down."
Suzette would claim she disapproved while quietly handing her the matches.
Going to be so honest here, I forgot that the word well was more than just the noun so I went to search it thinking that I wouldn't have any uses. It's been a long morning and it's only 10 am.
Clara would be a lemon tart: Carefully made, sharper than expected, and sweet underneath all that bite. Also liable to crack under pressure.
Suzette would be a madeleine: elegant, old-fashioned, and tangled in memory, especially what she’s trying to recover.
#QueerPrompts #TheColorsThatHaunt The Colors That Haunt Us takes place in the real world and has queerphobia in its historical sections. In the modern day when the story takes place, we only see society through Clara's eyes and with those she surrounds herself with it's perfectly ordinary.
I had a choice between this and a mention of primed canvases. This one felt much more atmospheric.
The Colors That Haunt Us comes out October 8, and somehow we’re close enough now that I can almost stop saying “coming soon.”
Almost.
In 14 days, The Colors That Haunt Us will be out in the world.
I’ve spent so long writing, revising, formatting, and talking about this book that it’s strange to finally be this close to people actually reading it.
