@kdsbooks.bsky.socialFinally managed to find somewhere to take a preorder for the English translation of 'Horde of the Counterwind', one of the inspirations for Clair Obscura: Expedition 33.
Apparently a cult SF classic in France and one @rachelcordasco.bsky.social has raved about
@rachelcordasco.bsky.socialSo far, in my vintage French #SFinTranslation In-Depth series:
Green Gods: 😯
Day Before Tomorrow: 👍
Napoleons of Eridanus: 🤨
@rachelcordasco.bsky.social"Overhead flew swarms of enormous insects"
That's 3/3 French SF novels from the 60s and 70s so far with giant bugs.
I don't know if you know this, but I loathe bugs.
@kdsbooks.bsky.socialAn interesting book which really comes into its own with powerful passages like these that describe a poetic relationship between the lighthouse, the elements and the moon.
Here our keeper is lamenting his lost love and loneliness, while fighting his descent into madness.
@rachelcordasco.bsky.social"You have been chosen by destiny for a new existence that will tear you from the banality of an Earthbound life and launch you into space at the head of powerful fleets!" #SFinTranslation
@rachelcordasco.bsky.social#SFinTranslation out in April: an Iranian gothic novel from @twolinespress.com !
@arn99.bsky.social#nowreading The Last Children of Tokyo by
Yolo Tawada, translated from Japanese by Margaret Mitsutani.
This is actually a short book of only 138 pages, it's something I spotted on my daughter's shelf and I know nothing about it but looks interesting.

@rachelcordasco.bsky.social@rachelcordasco.bsky.socialThere's another essay to be written, not about finding *current* #SFinTranslation (www.sfintranslation.com?p=16357), but about finding older SFT- @joachimboaz.bsky.social knows what I mean when I say IT'S NOT EASY.
@rachelcordasco.bsky.socialAll I wanted was to read some reviews of #SFinTranslation from the 60s and 70s. The univ library database has NOTHING.
@rachelcordasco.bsky.social#SFinTranslation out this month:
@rachelcordasco.bsky.socialBalle's On the Calculation of Volume 5 seems like a bridge, a breathing space, a build-up to what I can only imagine will be a fascinating denouement to Tara's travels in November 18 in the final two books.
